As sports fans, we have to travel a lot. Most of the time it is great, but sometimes when you have to travel to the wrong area at the wrong time it can give you cardiac arrest.

I had to go to Lewisville down thru Denton via I35 on Saturday to grandson's baseball game---What a beating, folks. Bumper to bumper slow down, then everyone up to 80mph trying for left lane. Don't even think about trying to change lanes---period--you will die in a fiery crash, or be killed in a road rage incident.

Maybe I'm just used to the wide open spaces of Wise Co.--- plus ,I may admit to getting a tad older and a little slower.... :D

Tyler, Texas! It's an uholy combination of imbreds, blue-haired old ladies, a city-long concrete median, and a stop light every 50 feet!

Your right, the loop in Tyler is god awful. A close 2nd is trying to get to the stadium in Forney. Frustrating.

I agree with Mathew on N.E. Loop 820, lane expansion should have started 15-20 years ago.

Pretty much what ever lane I decide to get into tends to be the worst one... It helps me work on thinking peaceful thoughts.

I-35 does suck from Round Rock until you really get out of Austin over by Cabela's......

Another bad spot is 175 coming out of downtown Dallas..they have that Deadman's Curve which doesn't have a ton of traffic but is crazy dangerous..

driving through Wichita Falls used to be a fantastic beating until they built the elevated freeway through town...

I-45 south from downtown Houston to Loop 610 is also a giant nightmare

Being one about to begin a career in the design of roadways, hopefully freeways, these are the challenges I have facing me the next 40 years or so... Wish me luck!

I haven't driven on any freeway in over 3 years-I take the back roads to avoid them even if it takes longer. I can't handle heavy traffic and more than two lanes- I haven't driven into Houston past Hwy 6 in over 6 years

With the absolute explosion of the population in Texas the last 20 yrs, there's just lots and lots of traffic everywhere nowadays, even on "rural" roads. And the listed population does not include about 20% more that are living here, but not registered in some way. That's even tons more vehicles on our Texas roads daily. I travel to other states in my business, and I can tell the difference easily. It ain't the Texas I grew up in no more. Just too many people competing for jobs and space, and everything.

Right now, I'm working and living in the Nashville area, and really loving it. The traffic is really not bad at all, and the weather, scenery, economy, space, real estate values, quality of life... just alot better, no contest. And no state income taxes here, either. But I'll be back when my contracts are done(I think).

In Houston, the 610 Loop between I-10 and 59 (in front of the Galleria). There's not a time of day that area doesn't have traffic.

No. 1 Spot is trying to navigate entry into / out of Henderson's Stadium...and it is awful spending time there.

No. 2 Spot is Tyler with Loop 323 @ Broadway as my absolute favorite, especially heading west on the Loop & turning south on Broadway...I always get into some sort of left turn lane too early & wind up in a parking lot for something (I'm not sure what) that is impossible to get out of.

No. 3 Spot...

Yep, it has opened in Buckeye Land...the new What-A-Burger on 271 North...police are assigned to traffic duty at meal times to minimize the pile ups on 271.

Hahaha.....ain't that the truth! The Whataburger in Gilmer is poorly designed for traffic flow, and the interior is not only too small and noisy, it needs a few more pictures of local football teams from around Gilmer, not just Gilmer. I couldn't believe what some people were willing to do just to eat there the first week. Two lanes wide in the drive-through, and still had traffic blocking a lane on 271 most of the time. I had to wait a few days before I even attempted to eat there because of traffic backups.

I love the toll road bypass around Austin. I took it when driving down for Thanksgiving. A lot less traffic and much prettier. Of course that doesn't help the folks that actually have to drive within the city limits...

Have not posted in a while. I agree with the traffic in Tx. I live in L.A. now. A few month's ago I met a good friend and a fellow 3a downlow member for dinner visiting the area. I set my Gps and on my way. Traffic was terrible. I look down and my Gps asked if I wanted to switch to pedestrian mode!

Im a small contractor and have to work up North like Round Rock and Georgetown alot and coming from south of Austin.... Love the Bypass loop too, the only problem is can't afford it!!!!!. 1.50 per vehicle at each toll (5 ) AND 1.50 for each axle if you have a trailer. So If Im going to Georgetown and pulling a simple 16' trailer I would pay 7.50 each way. (15.00) If im working a job say for one week thats 90.00 in tolls... Makes for a tough decision.....But cant get through Austin from 7AM to 9:30AM or 11:30AM to 1:30PM or 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM on I35 !!!!

Yeah may be bad in different Houston areas, but I lived in the greater Houston area for 25 years and always felt I could get around somewhat and had many many alternative "back" road streets I knew. Austin is just a joke. Can't believe such a pretty place could be so bad for traffic planning from years (decades) ago. Oh yeah of course I can.........

Hillsboro to Temple on I35 is horrible. I drove thru on a sunday about 2 weeks ago and it was bumper to bumper all the way.

In the Houston area, US Hwy 290 from Barker Cypress to Loop 610W is less than 8 miles. Usual drive time at 7:00 am is 1 hour eastbound. Same holds true westbound at 5:30 pm. Outside of drive time it's about 13 minutes or less.

I will "second" both loop 610/59 and North/South bound lanes of 45. I've got off of 288 onto 45 plenty of times and seen it bumper to bumper out to the Woodlands. I challenge anyone to protest those areas not being among the worst in texas. Give it a try, "say around 5-ish in the evening". You'll go home and kick the crap out of man's best friend after dealing with that mess and, you make not make it home before kicking some persons arse if there has been a wreck up ahead of ya. Folks like Gone Fishing may not have trouble due to knowing the area but for travelers, it is a damn nightmare most any time

I would say any road leading north, south, or west out of Houston with a major hurricane bearing down within 24 hrs. At least, that's what happened not too long ago. What a mess.
