La Vega lost to 11th ranked 4A Dallas Hillcrest 56-54 in a non-scheduled warm-up game before the playoffs. My understanding was that LV missed a 3 pointer for the win at the buzzer.

I think a loss like that will motivate a team more than if they would have made the last shot for a victory.

I'll be in Austin on Saturday for a day of finals basketball.

Sure would be nice if Region IV won it two years in a row. Go Bucs.

Well, how did ya like them apples? That's how you play fundamental, ball control, defensive, smart basketball to defeat a high scoring athletic team like Estacado.

Let's see now...Madison scored 29, Lovejoy scored 37, Pleasant Grove scored 34, Hutchins scored 34, and now Estacado scored 34. Looks like getting 40 on Argyle is gonna be tough.

Amazing win Argyle. Bring home the title to North Texas.

Look at these stats from the UIL play by play:

Argyle
Field goals 11-21 52.4%
3-point FGs 2-7 28.6%
Free throws 17-24 70.8%
Reb (O-D) 28 (3-25)
Turnovers 23
Last FG 4th-01:30
Large lead 8 (4th-00:35)

Estacado
Field goals 13-48 27.1%
3-point FGs 5-27 18.5%
Free throws 3-5 60.0%
Reb (O-D) 21 (10-11)
Turnovers 13
Last FG 4th-00:31
Large lead4 (3rd-06:16)

Argyle must have a monster of a defense. Free Throws won the game for them it appears.

Estacado - 27 three point attempts? Really? Looks like you lost your cool under pressure

Great win for the Corpus Christi Millers Buccaneers!. Congratulations to the La Vega Pirates for a phenominal season at 35 wins. The Miller team showed tons of tenacity and fight the entire game, would not let the athletic La Vega team pull away, and played very good defense. Lots of rebounds, and good shots under the basket at the end made the difference. They converted from the charity stripe at the end when they needed to hang on to a narrow lead. Great job by Miller.

The announcer said Kimbell had seen enough, and left for the hotel to get some rest. I guess you really don't need to see too much of Yates if you are up next, huh?

It's a great day for the Argyle Eagles teams and fanbase. We have been to the top of the mountain before, but this time with this team in this sport it means much to everyone that has been part of the Argyle family over the years. It was a special time earlier this fall in football as well, but winning feels a whole lot better than second place. Congrats to the players and coaches on these fine teams. It's a good day to be an Argyllian. Let the celebrations begin!!!

Congrats to the Argyle Eagles on a successful season and State Championship! Proof in the pudding, you can control your own fate! Old school is not a bad thing!

Congratulations to Argyle on winning the State Championship and to Miller for a great season.

Argyle proved in the fourth quarter that they were indeed the State Champions of 3A and unlike football they are the whole champions unlike in football where we have two divisions and are most likely starting to head toward a lot more and become like California where everything is watered down.
