There have been about 514 Leap Years since Caesar created it in 45BC. Without the extra day every four years, today would be July 28th, 2013.

Also, the Mayan calendar did not account for leap year so technically the world should have ended seven months ago.

My step-sister has traveled extensively around the world. I saw this on her facebook at the beginning of the year:

The Mayan priest explained what 2012 was about for the Mayans. He mentioned "the silly people up north" and how they were under the impression the end of the Mayan calendar meant the end of the world. He called the "silly people up north" silly because if they knew anything about the Mayan religion they would know the Mayans believe in reincarnation and their worlds just go on and on and on. Never would they predict the end of their world. In his explanation of the energies behind 2012 he described a world where people would unite and work together. Those who did not want to work together would fall by the wayside into their own groups. So here's a toast - cheers - to bringing unity into our lives in 2012!
