Not totally shocked to hear this....this poor lady was never able to shake her inner demons over the last several years, although it is said that she was beginning to straighten things out in the last year or so. What a true superstar she was---one of the best pure singing voices ever. I hope she has at last found her peace.

I have to agree. I am stunned! Yes, she was beginning to get back on track with the completion of the remake film "Sparkle" and "Waiting to Exhale 2" in the works. I must say, she was my first love... :crying:

He sure did. A singer with that kind of voice isn't born every day. Should have been him instead. Still haven't heard exactly what happened but, can't help but think it has something to do with what she's battled with for some time. What an icon and what a waste.

Two of the greatest voices I grew up listening to were Whitney Houston and Tina Turner. Both of them had abusive drug addicted husbands. Tina finally found the courage to kick Ike to the curb. Too bad Whitney couldn't have done the same with Bobby.

RIP Whitney. A sad day indeed. She had a great career but it could have been much better and longer. She was terrific in The Bodyguard and The Paster's Wife.

Gary Stewart and Faron Young had their sad times as well and ended their lives with a bullet.

The autopsy results are not out, so pure speculation.

Hard for me to reconcile the girl-next-door of the mid 80's with the drug addled mess she became in her later years. Truly saddened by her loss. When she was in her prime, there was no one else in her league. No one.

She was a great singer but I still believe that Dolly Parton sang "I Will Always Love Your" better
She relased it twice and was No. 1 twice as well
I heard Dolly sing it in the late 1980's at the Austin Aqua Festival

both sang it well. but as Parton herself said, Whitney took that song to a level no one else could
