In all likely hood, the addition of 6A will not solve the problem that you see. The last "steam" was that the current 2A would become the new 3A, 3A would become the new 4A, 4A would become the new 5A, and the current 5A would become the new 6A. The current 1A would split with 6 man and basketball only schools becoming the new 1A and 11 man schools would become the new 2A.
The biggest issue that folks have to deal with is the extremely high number of small schools and the problems with spring sports. Some of the district track meets, tennis tournaments, golf tournaments may have as many as 12 or 15 teams. This also impacts UIL contests, even though some may not think this matters. I know that we want to focus on football and disparity between the biggest and smallest schools in some districts but there are other things to consider.
I wouldn't get my hopes up for 6A to solve the issues that you see.

Five out of the seven made the playoffs last year, with each team going at least 3 games deep. There is one state champion (Chapel Hill - 3A D1), one 4A quarterfinalist (Kilgore), two 3A quarterfinalists (Gilmer - D2, Henderson - D1), and one 3A regional finalist (Bullard). Should be an interesting district race to say the least.

Yep, me too. Funny how they got away from the District of Doom, and out of the Region, AND into a much weaker district. I had hoped they would at least be on our nondistrict schedule........ Wonder why that didn't happen?

Gilmer has only 101 more students than Llano and yet would certainly not complain about trading districts with you if travel considerations were not in play. What jumped out at me was how much Liberty Hill has grown just since we played them in the D1 final in 2007. We were roughly the same in enrollment at that time and Gilmer in fact may have been a little larger.

I just looked it up. Gilmer was WAY larger back then and yet I recall being on the short end of a 38-13 final score:

"Liberty Hill is Gilmer’s first opponent in the 2007 playoffs which reported a lower high school enrollment (599) than Gilmer’s (668.5) as of the last UIL realignment."

It is a myth to think that large enrollments matter per se. I know I speak for the majority of Gilmer fans when I say that I would LOVE the opportunity for the Buckeyes to go into Division I again, but I honestly don't think the school will ever be large enough for that to happen.

Pre-season discussions / commitments were made last year after season end...Traylor / Surratt never thought they would be split or that we would be in a 7 team district. We had Tatum scheduled in week four after D'field...had to cancel as we will be playing Gladewater.
