Should be a good game. Both teams have great reasons to show up and play their best game of the season.

Keys for Wharton-1.No turnovers
2.Stop the run

Keys for Rice- 1.Keep the ball
2.Cause turnovers

Who is planning on going to this game?

Man, we may be play Wharton in the first round if we're going D1 (which is what it looks like), but if we go D2 we'll get the second seeded team out of 28 D2 for the first round, so who will that be?

I checked the weather for Friday and there is a chance of rain. What factor will the weather have on these two teams?

If it rains, then what that means is....

Rice will win in the rain.

Go Raiders.

If rice has a weakness it will be in the secondary, rice db will get tested big time.Wharton will have to slow down the rice running game make them throw the ball when they don't want to,the wharton kids will be ready & pumped up the kicking will be a big factor in this game.If it rains wharton will win in the rain.

I say Rice because they had a really really good team last year, and if i'm not mistaken, they have alot of key people back from that team. Especially if it rains, Rice's running game will be hard to stop.

Wharton has lots of exciting athletes and big linemen, but Rice is a machine on a mission.
Rice 27, Wharton 13

A lot of people are going to pick rice over wharton just by going on the won/lost record 8-1 ,6-3 but if wharton plays sinton, east bernard then wharton would probally be 8-1,and if rice were to have played brazosport& elcampo they could easly be 6-3.But i like the role of the underdog wharton has a real good chance to knock off rice and knock them off big,if whartons offense gets rolling watch out.

I think the rain will help Wharton more than Rice. The receivers know where they are going, whereas the DB's don't. However, if this front brings in a bunch of wind that will favor Rice. I think though, in light of everything that has gone down, and the indictments to come tomorrow, Wharton pulls out an upset 21-13.

Rain would without a doubt be to Rice's favor.
It will come down to Wharton stoping the run if they do they will have a chance. I don't look for Wharton to score alot of points, because Rice has a very ball-control oriented offense.(you cant score if you dont have the ball). You are right about the db's from Rice we have to get mis-matches. We will have to get some big plays out of the passing game.

What Defense is Rice playing in the secondary this year?

I have to disagree with you, RiverRatDad. I think in light of everything that has gone down, Rice will be more pumped than ever. I will take my Raiders by 3 TD's.

Its hard to pass in the rain. Its hard to stop a good running game, period, but especially in the rain and mud. I'm saying Rice by 7 or 10.

Just like last year, Wharton is going to be bigger, faster, and stronger than the Raiders and have about twice as many kids. The Raiders will come out and be physical up front, and execute a sound, well designed game plan. Wharton on the other hand, will not have much of a game plan, get down early and not have enough to catch up on a team that will run the ball as well as anyone they have seen.

Rice by 14

Im amazed that someone would actually post that the rain will help the passing team more than a running team. Absolutely amazed

I think yall are getting to far ahead of yourselves with the weather, the weather men don't even know what the weather will be like in a day, much less a week! I agree with SpeckleBelly Wharton has the size and speed that should dominate any school in 3A but don't utilize it. Should be a great game!!
Rice 24
Wharton 17

My bad, specklebelly. I was thinking of playing on a wet turf as opposed to playing in a falling rain. Myopic? Sure. Guess it doen't take much to absolutely amaze you. Looks like now the rain will be over by game time. Of course this, like most weather forecasts, will change by then.

hey cheermom, whats the story about someone digging up your football field?

CheerMom
11-06-2003, 11:03 AM
Someone dug a message to Coach Roark in the middle of the field last Thursday night. The coaches and the boys were able to get it covered up by game time. Hard to say who it was, could have possibly been someone at the school. But I know that it has fired the boys up even more than they were. I think it is sad that people have to stoop to such levels.
