Do Rangers sign Yu Darvish today? If so, what do you see for him as a Ranger?

I certainly hope so, and I think they will sign him. Another good arm will ALWAYS help. I don't know how he will hold up to the rigors and players of MLB, but he definitely has the stuff to make an impact. Durability will come with time, and if he can avoid injury he can have an immediate impact, in my opinion.

If they sign him, sure hope he's not looking up and over his shoulder a lot....

he is expected to sign before the deadline so the Rangers will have a ace type of pitcher for atleast a couple of years til the hitters catch on to how he pitches. Excellant signing. Would be great if they can also add Fielder.

Darvish is considered by scouts better than Dice K..and he's younger...def more of a power arm

I agree.. IMO, I think his deal will be over priced... MLB hitters can hit 97mph stuff.. Adjusting to the game over here will be tough on him.. Lots of money for something that uncertain.

Seeing on twitter that this is a done deal. Five year deal with 6th year option. Suppose to announce shortly before the deadline and.......... he will wear #11.

Now we just have to figure out how to get Prince Fielder and re-sign Josh Hamilton

My guess is it would either be one or the other.. Unless Hamilton took a huge pay cut..

Just my thinking.

From what I've been reading, the signing of Fielder hinged on the Rangers signed Yu. Now that they reached an agreement with Yu, it doesn't look like Fielder will come to Texas.

Darvish won't have quite the culture shock as some of the other pitchers from Japan that come over..hopefully that helps him out

From reports..Ryan went to owners( two of them are Billionaires) and asked if the Rangers go after YU can it be outside the normal payroll projections and they agreed that was fine.so this is a shot in the dark without effecting their payroll and chance to extend Hamilton

I dont think they will go after Prince unless the money starts to shrink simply because I dont think they feel he has the value he wants

Stumbled on this..

Random Yu tidbit --- One of Yu Darvish's Fighters teammates in 2011 was Jacksonville native Micah Hoffpauir - who played for the Chicago Cubs from 2008 to 2010.

From all indications, it appears the Rangers and Jon Daniels have made a good move here. Losing C J to the Angels has just been countered(hopefully) by a new member to the starting rotation that will fill the largest gaping hole the Rangers had a need to fill. Fielder would have been a welcome addition, but the Rangers need a top line starting pitcher, not another high-priced, albeit proven, bat. Besides, this may make the Hamilton resigning a more realistic goal for the team, and I personally would like to see that happen over sigining Fielder with the chance of losing Josh because of it.
