I may be late to the dance, but I read somewhere (don't want to say where just yet), that there is talk of 8 team districts???

Any thoughts?

Even though it would be difficult, the UIL would have to increase the # of school's in 3A. Are you talking all district's or only a few?

Not sure of nothing yet. Except that it would limit preseason non district games to a minimum. It would not seem fair to have 3 teams (from a 6 team district) make the playoffs, and then only 3 from a tough 8 team district make it. Just sayin'

highly unlikely... not enough teams in 3A. now there could be one or two, but definetely not the norm!

It would make travel problems even worse out west, wouldn't it?

When I played in high school in the 80's we had an eight team district every year, 3 non district games and 7 district games with only two teams making the playoffs, so anything is possible.
Oh and that was in west central texas

Data taken from UIL website for last re-alignment 2 years ago, not much will change this year:
5A 2065 membership and above 245 schools
4A 990 to 2064 membership range 246 schools
3A 430 to 989 membership range 190 schools
2A 200 to 429 membership range 229 schools
1A 199 and below membership 382 Basketball Schools
167 Eleven-Man Football Schools
130 Six-Man Football Schools

See where 3A is the smallest classification? 32 districts for 190 schools is just less than an average of 6. For every 7 team district there has to be a 5 team district. Simply not enough schools to make 8 team districts, now there may be a wild card like an Ingleside in the valley where putting them in another district would just not make much sense.

How many new schools have open or started playing football in 4A and 5A the past 2 years?

There might be a few but the UIL would have to stretch 3A even more than it is...

Not a chance this happens because 3A doesn't have the #'s to support 8 team districts. Many are thinking there will be some so called drastic changes come Feb.1, but the reality is there will be few changes. If there were going to be "major changes", such as splitting 3A or adding a 6A, that would have been announced long ago. Right now there are 190 3A schools and I don't see that # moving very much this time around

2years ago, there wasn't a district 30-3a they made a big 31-3a district consisting of

Ingleside
Sinton
Mathis
Robstown
Orange Grove
West Oso
Aransas Pass
Falfurious

All coastal bend 3a teams.....since then Falfurious has dropped to 2a, and two local 4a teams dropped to 3a, Rockport Fulton and CC Miller.
