Basketball Question...

I admit that I know very little about basketball other than it's played with a round ball that is put through a hoop. My question is this---How is it that a player can be bringing the ball down, get knocked to the floor and the ball stolen, and no foul is called, yet sometimes when a player is touched on the wrist while shooting it is? Fouls in BB are like PI penalties in football to me--way too subject to interpretation.

But White Men Can't Jump is a myth, urban legend of sorta. Few weeks ago I saw a little white dude(maybe 5'11) go between his legs and dunk in pregame.
