Not surprised Wimberley has ZERO on the list. We rarely do...we get it done by team play and strategic coaching.

Seems they could have waited one more week to release this. Oh well, just a little extra motivation for our boys come Friday. :D

Congrats to all the young men selected.

Congrats to everyone who was selected. AP poll is based on just regular season results, no playoff consideration and compiled by sports writers (correct me if I'm wrong). So for players who didn't make it into the post-season with their team, this is a very high accolade considering only a 10 game season.

So, if you are concerned about any lack of recognition for your favorite player(s), wait for the coaches all-state selections after the SC games and you should see a better reflection of what the coaches saw from the sidelines and the pressbox as they tried to scheme against the best players in the state. No media bias in the coaches all-state selections ... AFAIK.

Horrible list on many levels, but this one stands out...

FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE
Linemen:
— CHANCE ANDRIES, Coldspring-Oakhurst, Sr. -- 107 tackles, 20 TFL, 4 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 2 TDs
— JAKE BAUER, Navasota, Jr. -- 55 solo tackles, 52 assists, 13 sacks, 33 TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 16 hurries
— BO BRADY, Henderson, Jr. -- 92 tackles, 16 sacks, 25 TFL, 7 forced fumbles, 1 blocked punt
— KENDRICK HARRISON, Coldspring-Oakhurst, Sr. -- 122 tackles, 16 TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries (1 TD)

First, it's KEDRICK Harrison, not Kendrick.

More importantly, he's a middle LB, not a lineman.

Yes, it also hurt that Wimberley played only 9 games in regular season. Not a one who voted would have taken that into consideration.

Couldnt agree more. No way our (Van) punter is 1st team all state. He's very good but should have been honorable mention.

On the QB list no Smallwood from Van? (3131 pass yards 34 td's 7 int's) or Price from Lindale but L.Turner mentioned? Shameful

Van's Sid Moore should have been 1st or 2nd team DL. (94 tackles 8 sacks 36 TFL)

Van reciever Colby Rucker should have at least been mentioned (1246 yards 12 td's only playing 10 games due to injury)

From my understanding, players have to be nominated by their head coaches and then the AP writers decide from their. I highly doubt they would simply ignore Chapel Hill since they were ranked #1 all season and Wimberley who was always in the top 5. If you have a problem with a kid not making it, you should blame their head coach.

Well you know, Wimberley's coach and Chapel Hill's coach have been kind of busy with more important things. Can I blame the writers for picking a stupid selection process and picking a stupid time to vote on this?

Thanks and I understand. These things always start a spirited debate about who was slighted...and certainly some were. To anyone that should have been voted in ahead of my son, I apologize...although we won't be giving up the honor :cheerl::wave:

YTB, I'll call you when I get to the stadium.

Congrats to the Navasota boys! Kadarius is quite deserving of recognition. If we kept track of team stats like turnover margins at the 3A level, Navasota would probably be tops. I can remember several games, including two playoff games, without any turnovers by the Navasota starters. I am interested now in what the coaches have to say pretty soon here.

okay.....I am ready to take the abuse again this year......but 6 games unscored in regular season and 7 total....only gave up 46 points in the 5 playoff games....ranked #1 defensive in 3A football from about week 6.....Sports Writers are idiots!!!!! I think I am a good Coach....but I believe our players got over looked!!! And just to not be a homer....If #56 and #65 from Chapel Hill were not first team all - state offensive line...you guys are crazy!!!!

The Texas Sports Writers Association All State team is. The AP has always made their selections based on the regular season only. That way, you are making comparisons based on the same number of games played.

Pointing out one fact about these teams-Only sportswriters who are membesr of the Associated Press can vote. I'm wiling to bet that they are all from daily papers. I can't think of any semi weekly or weekly newspapers being a member of AP.-They don't subsciribe to the wire service

But most weekly and semiweekly newspaper writers that are members of the Texas Sportswriters Association can vote for that team.. That's the one that is published in Dave Campbell's Football magazine.

When I wrote for the Wharton-Journal-Spectator for over 20 years I was a member of the TSWA and voted for all the state teams.
