Congratulations to Wimberley on the win and advancing to the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.....yall earned it with tenacity and poise.
The defense played tough, and the offense got the job done........scored more than any one else was able to muster against the
vaunted Coldspring D. I think Lambert did an excellent job.

Congratulations to Coldspring on a fine season. Yall taught us all something about football this year.

Yes, Region 4 is just not on the level of Region 2 and 3 in football however there are some exceptions. Wimberley I would consider Region 3 and now you step up to play the best 3A has to offer in CS, I feel CS will be to much for you guys. You struggled to get past Sealy and CS is much better then Sealy, Good Luck.

Any thoughts on this Hook?

Just an absolute classic, one of the most exciting games I've ever been to.

I'll admit I got real sick of the clown blowing the horn every time Coldspring did something, but I felt bad for Coldsprings' kids when it was over. After the game, there were at least five of them that stayed on the bench while the handshake line was going, and it wasn't a case of classlessness, it was simply because they had freaking given it everything they had on the field.

Great program Barbay has built....

My sincere congratulations on the win. I listened to most of the game on the web, switching back and forth from the Wimberley and Coldspring stations.
After the first couple of series, I realized your were right, the Texans have come too far and been through too much to lose. Wimberley did what they needed to do to get the win, and advance to the BIG SHOW. The season is playing out like a good book, maybe "Season of Destiny"?

Wow...emotional roller coaster tonight!!!! Texans came out and had a beautiful opening drive. They were very diverse and mixed in some good runs, which was more than they did last year. They get a 2nd stop and punt. Fist play Smith catches a WR screen out wide and just streaks down to about 12 yd line. CS is on their heels and then the laundry hit the ground for holding that simply did not make a difference. Backed up got a 1st down and then had illegal procedure which ultimately put them in 4th and 5. Beautiful pass to back of end zone. Looked like 6 but receiver could not hold the ball. Over on downs. Could have been huge. CS then drove ball to about 4 and Gilbert I believe was hit hard in hole and the ball popped up in the air to be snatched by safety Jones I think. Texans get a drive going for a bit and then a penalty and subsequent large QB sack kills drive. Then CS hits long pass down the middle on 3rd and long to TE. Safety was there just misplayed the ball. No PAT. 7-6.

Both teams had some chances but end up at half 7-6. Late in half WHS was moving again when Lambert floated a ball down seam trying to get it to smith. CS DB closed and made nice interception. Blakemore probably made one of the plays of the game as DB cut it back and had a convoy that Blakemore penetrated by sliding around and extending his right arm to trip up the DB who likely would have taken it to the house. On top of that Blakemore came up with his right arm hanging from shoulder. He tore his Pectoral muscle on that side in the 1st half of 7th game and missed next 3 coming back in 2nd round. In addition, shortly before that TE/ILB Alana had gone down with leg injury.

Both of those players did come back for 2nd half but there was some angst in the crowd as they are both incredible players. 1st Drive of 3rd qtr for Texans results in terrible interception that set the Trojans up fairly deep in Texans territory. CS promptly drove the ball in for the score. Actually after getting a 1st and goal from just inside 10 an illegal procedure (I think) resulted in a 1st and goal from 14. Nonetheless, the CS QB broke a good run and scored. AND got he 2-point conversion.

Then CS just stuffed WHS. Texans punted and CS was moving the ball in decent chunks on the ground. It really looked bleak as CS seemed to have the momentum. However, the Texans defense rose up and got a stop. The Texans got to moving the ball again but faltered.

Texans were one step forward and then 2 steps back for a bit. However, Kolby Kelley (FB) broke a great long run to move Wimberley in striking distance midway thru 4th. Lambert then through a beautiful pass to a well covered Blakemore but Blakemore would not be denied and came up with a big boy catch. The college that recruits this kid will get a gem. Tie ball game. The Wimberley defense then just stepped up big time. BAll back and Lambert just missed Blakemore after a scramble. Blakemore had a step but ball drifted OB. A couple of possession passes to Burttshell and then the dagger to Blakemore down the seam. He created just a little separation with his body and speed and lambert put the ball where only he could grab it and we take the lead and hold on for win. The kid literally has the best hands I have ever seen. He was competing against a very good DB.

I am gassed as it was an up an down night. It really seemed like CS had grabbed the momentum and was about to pound WHS in submission. They just missed on some big plays. Sherman Gilbert is a special athlete and really fast but every time it looked like he was about to break one a Texans player just appeared to get a piece of him. Very scary and a large contributor to the aforementioned emotional roller coaster.

All the kids from Wimberley played well. Smith is a beast and a problem for other teams. Wilson also had some nice runs and a really long gain on a screen pass on a critical 3rd down. Great game. Ball did not bounce CS way this year. Impressive team. The defense once again would not give in even though things were looking bleak in 3rd qtr.

Terrible to write that about a great athlete and just crappy journalism. For one...a TD on that play or drive would have resulted in a tie and OT. For two...he does not mention if you take away the gimme CS interception in 3rd qtr or the dropped TD pass by Wimberley in 1st QTR that the game could have been a much different game and not nearly as dramatic. Heart wrenching setbacks happened to both teams. Just obscene journalism.

I want to state for the 3ADownlow record that Coldspring played the entire game with class and dignity...I saw NO cheap shots, NO taunting, NO over-the-top celebrations. I saw a team who played as one, who never gave up, who played with honor. I cannot believe anyone would say anything other than this. I hope for a "rubber match" next year. OMG! Talk about a gut check! The season looked on the brink of disaster in the 3rd quarter! Blakemore yelling at Lambert on the field. Smith arguing with the coaches on the sidelines. Coaches yelling at each other and the players. Wrong personel on the field! Brady throwing pics! Officials taking over the game! Going into the 4th quarter down by 7! Then the Texans rose to the occasion! Defense was awesome! Lambert to Blakemore!!! Lambert to Blakemore 2!!! Defense shuts em down and we are going to Dallas!!! I don't think i'll be able to sleep tonight after that finish! Awesome game boys!!! Great season Trojans! Our boys just made up their minds that they weren't going to lose and played the game of their lives! Now just one more baby!!!
I can't talk from yelling so much. Great crowd support when the going got tough!!

First let me say thank you to both teams for providing us fans with such an entertaining and hard fought game. Congratulations to Coldspring on a great season. You were a true class act as you proved throughout the game.

My family and I moved to Wimberley over the summer from just outside of Carthage. While I never felt at home while I was in East Texas for numerous reasons. My family and I have been welcomed into Wimberley (community and school) with open arms. I bring this up only because I never thought that I could or would become so emotionally invested in such a great group of young men, and the young men and women who support them, in such a short period of time. Good luck at State from one of your newest supporters, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the ride so far. Nice post Sportshack, fills in the blanks for all of us who missed it!

Great game as we all, I think collectively imagined! Glad to hear it was a clean hard hitting game, emotions were definitely high!

CONGRATS to the Wimberley Texanson a tremendous win!!! I know it took a complete team win to nudge the Trojans! Knew it would be a war of similar teams, just came down to whom could execute their will for the win!

That said, congrats and hats off to the fine Coldspring Trojans on another great season! Disappointing loss to a great team is nothing to be ashamed of boys, carry your heads high and remember you were a part of Texas High School history, probably one of the all time games in 3A history!

Our D is MUCH better right now than any other time in our history, save the '05 team. If we hold CS to less than 3 TD's (which is definitely possible by looking at their last 4 games), and then our D improves again this week...this just might be as good as 05. (They win it all, then we can talk about possibly being even better).Tough to say until they pass the test ahead of them.

I think, this year, its CS that has something to prove. They are the ones under the microscope, and they are the ones who are under pressure to correct their play off production. We, on the other hand, are well matched against them, confident, experienced, and ready to revenge last years lost. We are sitting in the catbird seat, as I see it.

You said it! Now just 1 more test to pass!

It'e an unbelievable ride, isnt it?? During the last ride ('05), I had two nephews on the team, so my interested was "fully vested". It's a feeling like no other, making the Holiday Season just unbelievable. Just wait as the week progresses...the town seems different, the people in the stores seem to smile a bit more, people want to talk about it at every opportunity, everything just seems brighter and better. I LOVE this experience in a small town like Wimberley!

The 4th quarter surge by Wimberley was impressive. Great teams do what needs to be done and big time playmakers make the plays when they need to be made!
I was listening on the net, but it seemed that the Wimberley OL was giving Lambert time to throw and make plays. Can yall comment on that?
Also, did the Texans and Trojans come through the game without any serious injuries?

It's a feeling like no other, making the Holiday Season just unbelievable. Just wait as the week progresses...the town seems different, the people in the stores seem to smile a bit more, people want to talk about it at every opportunity, everything just seems brighter and better. I LOVE this experience in a small town like Wimberley!

Welcome to town, Mike. I am told that on Mondays, they hold a game film night at Brewsters, the pizza place at the Junction. I'm going to check into this Monday for sure!!!!

Nelms ususally shows the game film on Monday nights at Milagro's. You can look at Wimberley Texans on Facebook or go to Texanboosterclub.com for more info.

Is it? OK, well, both are owned by the same guy...I thought it would be upstairs at Brewsters, but you might be right. You gonna be there?

As I was leaving the stands I saw a student wearing a Taylor letter jacket and I went up and shook his hand and thanked him for sparking the fire that woke up the team and the town to help us get to where we are!
Thank you Taylor Ducks!

I was at that game, and think back to two key things! Taylor scores with 2 seconds left and (DOES NOT GO FOR 2). Who knows right. In the 1st overtime Taylor scores 1st, Wimberly has to score to keep their season alive. They score, but a holding call pins them back with about ( i forget the down) 2ed or 3rd and about 15, and they still score and tie it up. Those kids could have folded that night, but have come back and worked their way to the state chp. game. And what a ride it has been for you guys. I wish you all the best next week, and bring that SC back to Wimberly. What a great group of kids, fans and coaches... GO TEXANS!!!

The wimberley offensive line performed well. Last year the Texans simply could not run the ball and I was not exaggerating when I said that the Texans did not get a darn yard last year running the ball. In addition, Lambert was under duress last year in the passing game taking about 7 sacks. The Texans protected Lambert much better. Now, CS had their share of sacks and pressures in the game. However, the scheme was so varied with quite a bit of short passing and screen passes along with much better running of the ball. Smith was available, Alana was available at TE, and Kolby Kelley is a year older and a heck of a FB and competitor. ALSo, Lambert has some elusiveness to him. I guess it was like a lot of games you see...late in game...it is harder on D-linemen to chase QB all over place. LIke I said Wimberley mixes it up with sprint out passes, and drop backs so it is not always easy to pin back ears and go. I recall one play where #20 A CS DE end who wreaked a lot of havoc last year and this had straight up rush on our big RT, Robertson. It seemed like a mismatch on paper due to the speed and athleticism of DE but Robertson did a great job on that play. Finally, Brennen Blakemore probably had his best game ever. He was huge on both sides of ball and I assure you that he is not your ordinary competitor. He made 2 or 3 TD saving tackles in game. He showed great speed and instincts on both sides of ball. HIs TD catches, especially the 1st one, would not have been made by many players. Also, Hunter Burttschell made some nice possesion type catches to get Texans closer to end zone on final drive. He also had 1st TD of game on WR screen type pass.

Alana and Blakemore went down right before half but both came back. Hollliman, DB/WR, went out in 3rd qtr but is expected to be back for game next week.

It was a great scene to watch the player’s share the moment with the fans and students who were lined up along the 1st row of the stadium and the fence as the players left the field. I kind of stepped back and took it all in. What an amazing connect between the community and these young men. It was one of those rare special moments that I will never forget.

This was a VERY emotional win for this team. You could clearly see it in their faces.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support these young men and looking forward to seeing everyone in Dallas next Friday.

Welcome! I grew up in Longview and never missed a Lobo game. Lived in Cuero from 82 to 86 and went to all their games as they made it to the finals in 85,86 and finally won it in 87 but none of those compare to Wimberley. A truly special place!

Great game Texans. The team played the WHOLE game. I had to listen on the net. Was the stadium packed?

Since the day that we scrimmaged you guys, I knew you had a great team and posted such. Glad to see it coming to fruition. One more game. Focus, and it's all yours.

Thanks 1st and goal. I know the Wimberley side filled pretty quick and you could see the headlights from the line of cars waiting to get in on the Coldspring side even after kickoff. They had the much longer drive to the stadium. It was nice to see a message on the scoreboard screen thanking Wimberley for the fundraisers that our community put on benefiting the people of Smithville and Bastrop. Not sure if this location was picked to once again help bring in more revenue to the county but it felt like a home game. Never been to this stadium before but I enjoyed the atmosphere. They had tons of security and plenty of people working traffic. Concessions were operated by Cedar Creek HS boosters and students and they all were very courteous and friendly. Heck, even the guy who took our tickets wished us luck, enjoy the game, and even added "God Bless You". The walkways were huge, which caused the seating to be sectioned off more than your normal 3A stadium. The benches with back rests were the most comfortable I think I've ever sat on at a high school game. Only complaint, not enough room for people to pass in front of you if need be. To top all this was the game. I'm pretty vocal and it was awesome to realize once the game started that most all the people around me were just as if not more so. It is the most fun I think I've ever experienced at a Texan game, yes, even that stressful 3rd qtr. I know this was much more of an answer than your question referred to but I just felt the need to share.

I sent an email to a chronicle hs sports writer and received a response that they were changing the headline.......I probably wasn't the only one to email them.

Congratulations to Wimberley on a great game. They were the better team on friday and deserve to move on.
What a great game by both teams. Hard fought and up in the air till the end. I have to say that the Wimberley quarterback played a great game, and IMO is the reason that the Texans are still playing this week. That young man had a great game and basically took the game in his hands when it counted and made the plays that put them over the top. The Wimberley defense also played very well, and did what they needed to do to win.
Congratulations again and good luck next week.
I was a little disappointed with a few things that I observed during and after the game. One of the Wimberley players (#2) is a great athlete. He made some really great plays, but the coaches should pull in the reins on him some. He tends to be very mouthy and a cheap shot artist. At last year's game, he put a vicious late hit on Gilbert toward his head trying to knock him out of the game. This year, he had several late hits that were not called. He picked up our quarterback out of bounds about 5 yards and yanked him around on the Coldspring sideline. I am not positive on what happened in the 4th quarter on the Wimberley sideline, but I am pretty sure he was involved. He was constantly mouthing to the Coldspring sideline and taunting the bleachers. He is a great ball player, but this is a bit much. Don't get me wrong, this had nothing to do with the outcome of the game, but I am cannot stand smart mouth teenagers and think that letting this kind of action continue on the field is what gets many young men in trouble after high school.
Also, some of the Wimberley fans taunted the 70 year old couple that was driving the Kubota ATV with the Coldspring train horn. After the game, the couple was driving the ATV back around to load it up, and some of the wimberley fans began hollering at them and taunting them. Kind of sad to ruin a great win by a High School team with this kind of mess.

Good luck at state and hope to see you again at the semi-final game next year.

I agree with you on the shot on Gilbert last year.Totally uncalled for and the coaches let him know it but I didn't see anything like that Friday. I heard a few boos from the incedent on your sideline but there weren't very loud and ended quickly and no flags were thrown so it couldn't ahave been that bad. Not sure what you were referring to on our sideline? As for the taunting of the 70 year olds I just flat out don't believe it! Not like our fans!

Wow, sure didn't expect this. I know for a fact I saw your #1 talking some to our #2. Maybe that was the problem. Ours was #2 talk. LOL.. Seriously. You guys have him under a microscope after last year and anything he did was going to come under scrutiny. That's exactly what has happened. There were several CS players doing a lot of talking so it does work both ways. The refs were calling it even both ways Friday night and there is no reason to think they would not have called penalties if they were warranted. That horn was blown not just on TD's but on plays felt worthy enough by the individual to blow the horn. That was irritating. Curious to know what exactly was said. My thoughts are the words were harmless if anything was actually said. What about the band music. CS had just went up 14-7 when your band started playing the Jaws theme music for the KO. This is great. What's not is the fact your players started clapping their hands to mimic shark jaws biting while facing the opposition. JMO but looks like taunting to me. They did the same thing last year but you did not hear us outwardly complain. I know there were a lot of Wimberley fans that did not like it this time around and were yelling. It's all subjective. This is not how I perceived this thread to close out because we have a great respect for the Coldspring team, coaches, and community. That will not change. Congrats on your highly successful season.

Whatever.

People were sick of hearing that horn being blown. No exaggeration, I heard that horn being blown after our QB got tackled for a 3-yard gain on a 2nd-and-10 play. That's ridiculous. Blow it after a TD if you want. But don't blow it after every single decent play, like he was doing in the second half. That guy is on the field and representing the school. *THAT* was classless.

You have a point about our player being a smart mouth on the field. I dont like it, I must admit, and it is classless. It makes my stomach turn every time I see it, and this wasnt the first time. I hope someone, somewhere stops this kind of crap.,..apparently Coach Nelms hasnt been successful in getting it stopped in high school. I know he has tried. It's not the Wimberley Way. It never has been.

And you are referring to what seemed to be a late hit out of bounds on our sidelines late in the game by the same player. You are right, it WAS a late hit, and it SHOULD have been called. I thought it was called, but it ended up being penalty on Coldspring. Not sure what happened there. I know this player ended up scoring two TD's for us, but I dont care. It must be said, lest we become part of the problem.

Regarding the horn....Really? You didnt have a problem with it blowing all game, did you?

I know I might catch some crap for stating the above...but you know, those kind of antics are punkish, and is not reflective of what we are and who we are.

I saw some of the film and on the play on our sideline #2 knocked the crap out of coldspring player before he was out of bounds making it totally legal except in flag football. Heard there was another flag somewhere for the holding although I didnt see it (the flag). It must have been there because I didnt see their coach going nuts or anything.

As for as the horns and crap at games (college is worse). I forget about them after about 5 minutes, BUT IMO If one team has it then it should be a rule that the other team has to have one too. Just saying.

I know that kid is fiercely competitive and does not back up even a bit from the trash talking that gets going on the field. I have also seen him show respect for quality players on other teams and saw evidence of that the other night several times. He made a TD saving tackle on Gilbert after a good gain and in the process hammered down on Gilbert's arm trying to cause a fumble to no avail. I saw him walking back with Gilbert and it appeared to be a good natured conversation going on between Gilbert and him. He is animated for sure and I am not saying that he is in the right. I could have done without the finger wag that got the CS fans going. I have no way to know if he just being a jerk or simply responding in kind. I do know that he has to deal with more than his share of trash talking and that for him it is "ON" if the other team wants to play that game.

Coldsprings is a very good team and the game of inches fell in Wimberley's favor that night. CS was a step away several times from putting more points on the board.

I know that kid is fiercely competitive and does not back up even a bit from the trash talking that gets going on the field. Thank you SS. Exactly my thoughts. I was trying to put it into words but was so irritated how Wimbo is hanging this kid out to dry. Just amazing.

Sometimes behavior like that runs in the family.

The train horn was a little much.....no, it wasn't a little much, it progressively got a lot annoying.
It would be ok, after a score, but after every good CS play.....too much, kind of in your face, rubbing it in.
Although, a couple of times during our game, the horn conductor got confused and blew it after our team made a good play.
I think the unrealized intent is psychological warfare.
If the horn was facing the CS sideline and stands, they would probably shut it down, or at least turn it down.
Can you imagine if opposing teams retaliated with their own horn or air raid siren, competing to have a louder horn or siren?
Law enforcement and military units have sonic weapons now for crowd control, some are so loud they cause pain and disorientation.
This could really get out of control.
I would rather hear something from their band.
I enjoyed the Jaws hand clap.....and did not perceive it as taunting or offensive.
Come to think of it, that train horn is a form of over the top celebration, or perhaps even taunting.

I cannot believe that this thread has turn into school and player bashing.A terrible way to mar the legacy of a great game.... As for #2,he does not usually start the trash talk, but he won't back down from it.If you want to get him playing at a higher level, just talk trash to him, that only makes him play better.Playing with emotion is what makes him so great. He has been the same since the 7th grade,it is just his fierce competitive nature, the thing that all great players have.

Not hanging him out to dry...just stating the obvious. If actions are taken in public for all to see, then that means comments are welcome to the public too. The crowd groans when they see it, they moan when we get penalized for it, they clap when the coach schools him on it...why not admit it that I see it too and I find it classless? I hate trash talking, and I especially hate trash talking that gets us penalties. Dont act like we havent been penalized considerably for this stuff. That player is a tremendous asset...but needs to fix that behavior.

Aren't you embarrassed by it?

Each player has their own individual personality, coaches try and have them all play by the same standards, and do not condone acting out.Unfortunately, some make emotional mistakes while playing the game,as hard as coaches try to prevent them.I personally, would rather have him get an occasional penalty for being overly aggressive or emotional and reprimand him, than not have him play.Benching him would NOT change the way he plays and would only hurt the team.

I would agree with the benching comment.

Simply put, NO, and no more posts from me on this topic for obvious reasons.

Fair enough.
