I thought if something like this were to happen then the team would forfeit and the team they were supposed to play would get a bye into the next round instead of bringing back the team they beat the previous round?

no..if a team is kicked out the team they beat replaces them...a State title game was played that way a few years ago when Katy was kicked out

MacArthur's football team has made one appearance in the UIL State 5A Championship game in 1998. MacArthur had lost on December 12 to Katy High School 14-6. However, Katy's win was forfeited for using an ineligible student during the regular season[6]. Given hours to prepare, MacArthur played in the state title game but lost to Midland Lee 54-0[7]. The current head football coach of the school is Ben Cook.http://neisd.net/mac/athletics/football.htm

After the game they were found out but instead of the team they beat in the semi-finals (Which was Permian I believe) playing Converse Judson, they just gave the title to Judson. Score in the books is 1-0.

I guess my point is, what if the investigation is still going when its game time? What happens then?

No, it was given to Converse Judson and the score in every stat book and website I've seen says 1-0*. The asterik referring to the controversy.

If the allagations are true. Sometimes allagations are not true. Hence, the investigation. Often, the truth is easily documented. Official Birth Certificate, proof of residence inside the district, grade reports and etc.
