Huffman gets the first penalty of the game, a false start. They go three and out again, and their skill positions are WAY too slow to match up with Navasota's defense.

Just as I typed that, their punt was a busted play and they somehow managed to scramble and get 60 yards. Jesus.

End of quarter, same score, and Huffman's QB is badly injured.

Well, Huffman's QB was removed from the game with a probable concussion on a Rattler lick. They have a sophomore QB in now. On 4th and 8 from the Rattler 27, Huffman's kicker nails a 44 yarder.

Navasota takes the second half kickoff. Driving. They pick up several first downs on the ground, and Creeks takes it the final 10 yards for a Rattler TD on a 9 play 72 yard drive!

The PAT is wide right, and a flag for roughing the kicker is waved off. Oh well.

Navasota whips Huffman Hargrave to advance

By SCOTT CLENDENIN
Special to The Eagle

Navasota's rematch with Huffman Hargrave looked good on paper, but when the two teams lined up at Woodforest Bank Stadium, the Rattlers had the Class 3A Division I regional game in hand before halftime.

Led by quarterback Kadarius Baker and running back Xavier Creeks, Navasota scored 35 first-half points and cruised to a 44-3 victory Friday.

Navasota's defense also held Hargrave (9-3) to 135 yards and six first downs, well under Hargrave's average of 340 yards per game.

"Look at what our defense did in holding them to just three points," Navasoata head coach Lee Fedora said. "They are a team that scores a lot of points, so what a great job by our defensive unit."

Navasota's offense did its job, racking up 546 yards and 20 first downs without a turnover. Baker hit 16 of 20 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns, and Creeks rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries.

Navasota (11-1) advances to face top-ranked Tyler Chapel Hill at 7 p.m. Nov. 25 at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco in a quarterfinal rematch Chapel Hill won last season. Chapel Hill (12-0) advanced by holding off Waco La Vega 27-20 in a matchup of unbeatens. La Vega fell to 11-1.

Navasota got first-quarter touchdown runs from Jacob Malek and Creeks to take a 14-0 lead.

Hargrave answered with Cannon Cotter's 44-yard field goal early in the second quarter, but Navasota countered with 30 unanswered points including three second-quarter touchdowns. Creeks scored on a 41-yard run. Baker found Austin Collins for a 73-yard touchdown pass, and Solomon McGinty caught a 97-yard TD pass from Baker to give the Rattlers a 35-3 halftime lead.

McGinty finished with 149 yards on seven receptions, while Malek had 54 yards rushing on seven carries.

"When we looked at our play chart at halftime, we had only run thirty snaps but everything we were doing was working," Fedora said. "We have to give our offensive line credit because [the Falcons] were not getting any penetration."

Creeks scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter, and Cesar Barron connected on a 36-yard field goal in the fourth for the final points of the game.

Congrats to the Rattlers! Wish I could make it to your game next week, but unfortunately since I'm missing actual Thanksgiving for the A&M vs tu game, my family is having Thanksgiving on Friday... I don't think they'd appreciate me skipping Friday too haha. Make it another round Navasota so I can watch y'all!
