A year after Brenham provided one of the biggest shock losses in playoff history, Wimberley almost beat the mark badly — as much as a 36-point favorite in some polls, Wimberley flirted with disaster before finally icing Taylor with a crucial fourth-down stop in the second overtime. The Texans looked like winners late in the fourth, taking a seven-point lead with just 50 seconds to play on a Brady Lambert touchdown pass. But Taylor, which had gashed Wimberley on the ground all night, drove to the Texas 9-yard line and got a touchdown pass from Jeremy Snyder to Jalen Kerley with two seconds left to tie it. Wimberley and Taylor traded touchdowns in the first overtime before the Texans score-and-stop in the final frame. Taylor, just 3-7 on the year, came this close to knocking out arguably the favorite for the DII title.
