Wharton (5-6) vs. Orange Grove (8-3) Saturday 7:00pm Memorial Stadium, Victoria

Anybody want to discuss this one?

I think it will be a coin flip game. Neither team has a big advantage.

Wharton is going to kill OG. OG nowhere close to ingleside's level and OG will have no answer for Grissom and whartons speed. I like the tigers by 21

Sinton trail against Orange Grove for most of the game and they had the most yardage against Sinton this season than any other team Sinton played. They have a very good coaching staff. I'm actually favoring Orange Grove in this game.

Wharton coach Brad Wriight has done a fantastic job for the Tigers this year.

Bartee Grissom played lame in the final minue of Friday's game and Andrew Cruz came in for a couple of snaps

They beat Sweeny, Needvillle and Palacios enroute to the playoffs

The Tigers are a second half ball club and will win Friday. They have been playing with a lot of confidence

I'm sure Radio Station KIOX -FM 96.1 out of El Campo will broadcast the game. Too bad they don't steam on the internet

Orange Grove by 10+

OG should put up in 30+ point range with their passing attack and i like their coaching to be able to game plan against Wharton threat.

I would be suprised if OG keeps the game close for even 2 qtrs. Wharton has plenty of speed and size on both sides of the ball, which is going to prove trouble to OG.

The Scoop: A key to this game will be the quarterback position. Wharton needs its healthy; OG needs its to continue to develop. OG senior Zach Arnold has done a solid job at QB this season, his first one playing football since ninth grade. Never really a QB before this year, Arnold has passed well (2,072 yards, 16 TD, 12 INT) but has to stay away from the multiple-pick games like last week's three-INT showing against Port Isabel. That's dangerous against a ball-hawking Tigers defense, which twice picked Ingleside QB Tristen Barajas last week. WR Rayce Gatlin (51-1,129, 8 TD), Arnold's favorite target, is one of the best in the area, while Ruben Lopez (106-633, 10 TD) and Julian Salas (134-724, 12 TD) are dangerous threats to run out of the spread for the Bulldogs, as is Arnold (102-425, 4 TD). The offense runs through Wharton QB Bartee Grissom, who hobbled off the field near the end of the game against Ingleside. Roughly 80 percent of the team's plays involve Grissom running or passing. But if OG gets too caught up in Grissom — or Andrew Cruz, who replaced him last week — then RB Demetrius Peacock can spring a big gain. But this offense does revolve around Grissom. That leaves it up to Bulldogs defensive standouts such as Lopez, S Martin Quintana and DT Ramiro Montalvo to come up with big plays.

Wharton coach Brad Wright has done a fantastic job. He helped East Bernard make the playoffs when he was there for 1 year in 1999. Then he went to New Braunfels Canyon

He was an assistant at El Campo before coaching at Karnes City in 1997-98.

He is visably scene in the Wharton community. He made my sports editors job at the Wharton Journal-Spectator easy and we had weekly interviews

I can count on one hand the number of 3a teams that would beat WC handily, if anyone. Our top 3 could matchup with just about any districts top 3. Wharton would get hammered by plenty but this is a solid district. Better than any district in reg 1, and most districts in reg 2 & 3.

Id matchup WC with any districts #1, sweeny with any districts #2 and Wharton with any districts #3 and I like our chances against all but 2-3 districts in 3a. JMO, but in response to your question, yes.

yeah ya'll really owned the first two rounds I don't even know why I made the trip, if I'd had known that we didn't have a chance against Wharton I would have just stayed home...i mean we didn't even belong on the field with them guys  and Rockport our third place team was completely overmatched them guys struggled all night couldn't move the ball all night....
I agree yall's district is superior through the first 2 rounds.

Anyways Congrats Wharton on yall's big win tonight good luck next week.

idk sfia was the one saying OG was gonna win tonight I think lol. Some people had WC ranked as low as 5 in the region and sweeny and Wharton havnt been ranked at all and all 3 of us have chances of winning the region LOLyea i felt they could be in that game and possibly win it. They had been improving but it comes down to the kids on the field to play their best game and Wharton appears to be improving and playing thier best at this point of the season. I have had this ranking since week 6, 1. Devine 2. Wimberley 3. Gonzales 4. West Columbia (Those teams are still there with the exception of Gonzales) After two rounds of the playoffs, Wimberley and Columbia either one could be rank #1 as i can't say one is better since i still haven't seen Wimberley. Devine i think scored its lowest total of the year this week.

After the first week of the playoffs i still felt imo those were the top 4. I actually felt after the first playoff game Sweeny looked better than West Columbia but that 2nd playoff game West Columbia is much more balanced than Sweeny on offense. Defenses are about the same.

As for Wharton can't comment on them how good they are since i haven't seen them and i had seen Orange Grove. Wharton did squeak by Ingleside in a game they trailed til last min of the game.

he always thinks south texas teams have a shot ;) lol Yep since i have most likely seen them play. Each one of those teams had a shot going into the game and thats when predictions are made :)

Yikes!! Well this thread certainly got interesting during my drive home from Victoria. It was far more entertaining than the game that's for sure. A lot of good stuff here guys.
