Friday night in Calallen, at 7:30? Assuming yes.

Lets get it started. I say the Necks take this one by at least 28.

And i hope they keep letting Treylon throw it like he did in the RF game. Think hes more than capable of beating teams like that every once in a while and I think it makes our offense much more dynamic and harder to stop.

That said, Go NECKS!

I agree with mixing it up. I think we could throw a little more since most teams respect our running game. Both QB's are very capable of mixing it up. I liked seeing both of them being used Thursday night and with both of them throwing and running the ball, the defense has to respect both games. Treylon is very slippery back there and ince is faster than what he appears and is strong enough to push his way through to get that needed extra yardage. The only time we struggle with the pass is when teams defense stacks the box or comes with a delayed blitz. But, we do have an answer for that by dumping it off to the TE or FB. Just haven't seen a lot of it. Maybe we're saving some of that for the big game. Don't know about a 28 point spread but i'm confident we get the "W" without giving us fans a heart attack. :2thumbsup

Raymondville is BIG on the OL, but they don't fire off the ball. I can see Swanks and the rest of the Neck DL causing havoc in the backfield. Raymondville is a team you need to jump on early and not let them think they have a chance late. WC should win easily if they get a big lead early.

New Massey rankings has Columbia at #19, up 9 spots from #28 last week. Also has us as a 29 point favorite this week. 36-7.

As of now, Columbia would be favored against both 3rd round opponents as well.

Columbia 28
Lampasas 21

And
Columbia 27
La Vernia 14

Likely semifinal matchup:

Columbia 26
Tyler chapel hill 40

Just food for thought.

I'm hoping for a close one, its more fun for the fan in the stand :)

’Necks prepare for unknown with Bearkats

WEST COLUMBIA — The one thing about the Raymondville Bearkats is that there is little information on them in cyber space.
So the Columbia Roughnecks (11-0) are making sure they are more than prepared for the Bearkats (7-4) as they meet in the Class 3A Division area round matchup at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Phil Danaher Stadium at Callallen High School.

"It was definitely tough to find information on them, and they really don't compare to anyone that we faced this year," Columbia coach Leland Surovik said. "But whether they are 6-foot-1 or 6-foot-5, we are preparing for the worst."

A few things are for sure about Raymondville - the Bearkats love to run the ball, and they are big up front. The District 31-3A opponents beat Rio Grande City La Grulla last week, 29-9 after trailing 9-0.

"Our kids know they are physical up front, so they understand that we have to play hard," Surovik said. "They have about five different backs and are going in misdirections all of the time. Defensively, it just seems like they run what we do.

"But just as I say that, and it's happened before to us, is that we've faced teams that run the ball a lot and then we show up and they pass it," he said. "I just think they switch their offenses when we face them so we are trying to prepare for whatever they are going to throw at us."

The message for his Roughnecks is simple Surovik said, "practice hard and play like it is a state championship each week."

Quarterback DJ Quiroga runs the show under center for the Bearkats, and last week against the Gators, he threw only six passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Quiroga was the backup when the season started, stepping in when Joshua Cantu went down with a shoulder injury during the year. But Cantu has made his return and now the Bearkats have a couple of options.

Tailback Jesse Valladares was the leading rusher with 110 yards against La Grulla, but also coming out of the backfield are Ruben Mendoza, Alex Montalvo and Romeo Rosales on an offense that ran for 275 yards a game this season.

The big boys doing the blocking up front for the Bearkats are left tackle Ralph Rubalcaba, left guard Joe Castaneda, center Adrian Moncevaiz, right guard Greg Juarez and right tackle Joey Alfaro.

Columbia's win against Rockport-Fulton (34-15) last week turned into a rout, but not until the second half.

The 'Necks' offense gained 379 yards - 288 of those coming on the ground - as junior Floyd Bess ran for 133 yards. The leading rusher in District 29-3A, Sean Flannel, had 86 yards on 20 carries, but Columbia also used three other backs to carry the load.

Even seeing a bit of action was starting quarterback Tyler Ince, who went out with a knee injury Oct. 14 against Wharton.

"He is getting better every week and obviously he knows our offense," Surovik said. "You can see his confidence level is a vital part of our offense. He is not completely healed and in practice he is going hard."

Columbia and Raymondville have never met on the gridiron.

"I think our players gained a bit of confidence and are now in playoff mode," Surovik said. "They understand we are in the playoffs, and in order to stay in, we have to win. We also have to get used to playing teams we've never played before."

The winner plays either Lampasas (10-1) or La Vernia (6-5), who meet Friday in Round Rock.

Good read.

They normally like to pass but they just dont have a very good passer this year and the regular starter is still banged up, only played in 3 downs last week.

I was thinking 35-7 before your post.

Now I'm gone to say 49-0.
