on stephenville's first drive, they got down to about the 5 yard line, they ran some sort of option or qb draw or something and the qb ended up running the ball and taking a pretty good shot...

he was obviously hurting, but never actually went down, but coaches came out to tend to him, so as most of us know, he has to sit out a play...

well, the backup is a freshman brought up from the jv who hadn't played a down all season, so stephenville burned a timeout to get the starting qb back in the game and not have to sit out a play...

well, after the timeout, the freshman goes in anyways and him and the RB fumble the handoff and turn the ball over...

after the game, radio guy was interviewing the stephenville head coach and he said that even though they used the timeout, the injured player, according to the officials, still had to sit out a play...

so is that the rule or should the timeout have allowed him to come back in for the next play ??

In college and the NFL if you use a timeout you can put him back in.

As a former official, UIL came out last year for the safety of all players regardless the player must sit out one play to be properly evaluated. Coaches can no longer buy a player back in for a timeout.

sounds to me like stephenville better have a back up qb prepared to play
