Navasota has controlled the tempo and maintained the momentum so far. Sealy has been playing like nervous Nellies with penalties, and blown coverage . It will be interesting to see how they come out in the second half. Baker has continued to impress with his accuracy and poise out of the pocket.

Navasota had 447 total yards with 235 coming through the air. Baker and Malek combined passing 9 of 12.
Navasota had 212 yards rushing.

Sealy had 386 total yards in the game--most in the first half. SJ was pretty well bottled up in the second half.
Navasota bent but did not break in the first half but just dominated the second half. Great game for the Rattlers.

Penalties hurt Sealy at big times in the first half, and pressure and turnovers (2) ints really shut them down in the second half.

Was at this game ,stats are a little deceiving. Other then SJ Sealy was out classed big time in this game, after Navasota figuired out Sealy had no receviers for SJ to throw to it was all over for SJ. Navasota shut down SJ and Davis like no other team has done all year, makes me wonder just how good Wimberley really is. Time will tell.

Agree with Hook here on just how good can Wimberley be going double overtime to Taylor for the win. It is evident that this Navasota team is peaking just in time for the big games. Good luck to the Rattlers next round and onward.

No surprise to me. Just like a good drummer who provides a great tempo and allows the singer and main guitarist to shine-the o-line gotta protect and create that similar setup, if not, SJ who!! Felt that way vs. LG-Sealy o-line not that big or aggressive-SJ just broke on 3rd and long a few times. If not, could have been a different outcome. Congrat's to D23 Rattlers-lots of weapons-keep bringing it. Coldspring likely next, correct?

Hope Navasota QB will be all right, he left the game after scoring in the 3rd quarter. Looked to be a shoulder injury however their backup is not to shabby, will be hard to beat if their QB gets healthy. Good Luck Rattlers, A class act from D-23.

Navasota beats Sealy 40-13 in playoffs

By SCOTT CLENDENIN
Special to The Eagle

It was deja vu all over again as the Navasota Rattlers dominated the Sealy Tigers with a hard-hitting 40-13 victory in a first-round rematch of last year's playoffs. It was the ninth straight victory for the Rattlers.

Despite outscoring the Tigers 23-6 in the second half, the ballgame changed at the end of the second quarter.

The Sealy offense finally found its rhythm behind the rushing attack of Ricky Seals-Jones and Jowan Davis. The pair was gashing Navasota for big plays on the ground, and after Seals-Jones hit R.J. Cardwell on a 23-yard gain to set up first-and-goal at the 10, it looked as if the Rattlers would surrender the lead. Xavier Creeks fought off a block and stopped an option pitch to Davis for a 1-yard loss. Davis probed the middle on second down for no gain before Seals-Jones stretched outside for just 5 yards.

Sealy (8-3) was forced to attempt a field goal, and even after it bounced off the uprights, the Tigers could not take advantage of a second chance following a Rattler penalty and pushed the kick wide right.

Navasota (10-1) took over at its 20 and hit fast forward again on its offense. After an incompletion, Kadarius Baker's draw picked up 15 yards up the middle, and he followed with a perfect pitch to Howard Horn on a carry out to the 49. Navasota dipped into its bag of tricks and tried to lateral a pass to Jacob Malek, but the defense sniffed out the trick play and Malek was forced to run for 5 yards. Baker stood tall in the pocket, and his line gave Austin Collins time to cross the field where the deep pass hit him in stride for a 44-yard strike and a 17-7 halftime lead.

Baker, who left the game in the third quarter after scoring from two yards out for a 24-7 lead, finished 6-of-8 for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Malek carried the ball 18 times, most of them from the quarterback slot after Baker's injury, and gained 127 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

Malek's first touchdown came one play after finding McGinty wide open on a play action pass that covered 70 yards. He finished the game with five catches for 170 yards and a score.

After knocking Seals-Jones out of the back of the end zone for a safety, Malek capped the Navasota scoring with a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter for a 40-7 lead.

After allowing Seals-Jones to rush for 117 yards in the first half, the Rattlers held him to just 14 after halftime. He was also 4-of-12 for 102 yards passing. Davis rushed 19 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns, the last on a 14-yard carry up the middle with just over two minutes left on the clock.

It took just two plays for the Rattlers to jump on top of the Tigers. Baker connected with Solomon McGinty deep behind the Sealy secondary, and the 63-yard catch and run gave Navasota the initial 7-0 advantage.

Xavier Creeks broke off an option run around right tackle for 29 yards on a first down carry to the Tiger 33-yard line, and a 15-yard horse collar by Seals-Jones added 15 yards down to the 18. Baker hit Collins for 9 yards and a first down on a stop route. The Tiger defense stiffened after Malek gained six yards on the next two plays. Baker looked like he was going to break free into the end zone on third down, but the hole closed quickly and led to a 20-yard field goal by Cesar Barron for a 10-0 lead.

Sealy took the kick at its 35-yard line, and Seals-Jones took over with his legs. After another motion penalty moved the Tigers back 5 yards, he burst up the middle for 19 yards. He missed an open receiver on the next play, but the quarterback draw saw him gain 13. Facing third-and- 1, he again kept the ball for 7 yards and the first down. Giving the ball to Jowan Davis up the middle gained 8 to the 15 before Seals-Jones faked the zone to Davis and plowed down the 11 for another first down. The pair alternated carries until Davis went into the end zone from 1 yard out for a 10-7 score.

Navasota will face the winner of the Huffman-Hargrave rematch against Silsbee.
