With the Gonzales Apaches winning the District 28AAA championship this year, it marks the first time since 1963 that the Apaches have been the outright district champion in football. Apaches were tri-champs back around '78 and have been to the playoffs several times since, but never as district champs.

Congrats Gontex. I'd post this in the sports thread and be dern proud of it. What a great year the Apaches had and I look for it to continue in the playoffs as well.

Way to go Gonzo. I attended Goliad High School in the 69-73, and we used to have you guys on the schedule. We won district my jr. yr, but I didn't realize it had been so long for y'all. Congrats and go get 'em in the playoffs.

I need to add that the '64 Apaches (9-0-1) were co-champs with San Marcos. Missed out on the playoffs due to penetrations. We didn't play off ties in those days. The '63 and '64 Apaches were both undefeated. '63 (11-0-1)advanced to quarterfinals and ended in a tie with PSJA. PSJA advance with first downs.
