Wimberley rolls into Geronimo to play Navarro without the benefit of 4 talented starters...Blakemore WR/DB; Alana-LB/TE; Fonville DE; and Gray DB. All of these players were big contributors on last year's 14-1 semi-final team. Gray has been out since end of Sealy game and the Texans had come up with scheme to replace his production at safety. However, that scheme included moving Blakemore to safety. On a positive note, the Texans should get more playing time from Smith this week who just returned to line up last week after being injured in 1st game of season.

Texans coaches are good at stopping slot T and their front 7 to 8 has been strong this year. They should be able to compensate for Alana and Fonville. Although, Alana is very physical and smart at ILB and a big loss when facing a slot T team. They better be able to compensate as Navarro can run the ball.

Navarro is fighting for playoff life and will be amped up for game. Can WHS passing game compensate for lossof Blakemore? He just has a gift for getting open that other receivers have not really demonstrated on consistent basis. Hard to evaluate. WHS needs to be balanced. I just don't see Navarro being a more talented team than last year and they just could not match up with Texans last year. Texans should still win but Burttschelle and Holliman will need to step up. Recall losing 2 productive receivers in Blakemore and Alana. I think that Reed Jones will get in line up as receiver as well. Those guys need to get open and make plays. If they do...game definitely will go to Texans.

Going with Wimberley. Navarro is physical, but not that caliber. I know our record does not show it, but Bandera almost surprised a lot of Navarro fans last week, by displaying some of Navarro's weaknesses. I think Nelms has his kids going in the right direction. Navarro is scrappy and tough, but just dont see them taking this one.

The more I think about it...I like Wimberley's defense in this one against slot T. Can Navarro pass this year?

They can pass if need be and are averaging around 85 yds per game. I think last year's was around 115... A lttle more than your typical slot-t offense...

Yeah, just being cantankerous.....I'm still stinging from our loss to Sealy. I'm concerned about the injuries Wimberley suffered last week, for the players foremost, and the team as well. Losing three playmakers has to have an impact. My sense it will have a bigger impact on your defense in this game. In a good program, others step up and perform. A lot of teams are going through the same thing. The full return of Smith should lessen the impact. Wimberley will take this one by 14. Hopefully those with the less severe injuries will be back in time for the playoffs. I really hate seeing kids sitting out with injuries after working so hard for something.

Texans have number of players step up. Navarro is a disciplined team with a tough RB. However, they were out athleted and are too one dimensional for Wimberley defense. That defense has its issues but they have been very stout all year defending the run with exception of Sealy game but that is a deceptive situation due to Seals-Jones from Sealy making soooo many off schedule plays. OY!!! Smith looked like a man possessed in his first meaningful action since 1st game of season. Wr's Burttschell and Holliman did great job of picking up slack for inured Blakemore. Wilson,Kelley and Smith too much in ground game. even Cameron Morris got another late long TD run. Terreo played well at ILB. He has been good OLB all year and filled in for injured Alana. Kothman moved from DT to De to make up for injured Fonville. Tristan Moore and JAckson King played a lot at DT and did well to replace Kothman. Saw Hendrickzon in there as well. Bake Guidry had impressive game including awesome sack on mobile QB. Alden mann tore it up again. Reed Jones filled in very well for Blakemore at Safety. Lambert was usual steady hand at QB. Some nice passes and some tough runs. The coaches on both sides of ball deserve a ton of credit. The WHS offense is very diverse and that situation helps compensate for an O-Line that is continuing to improve. It is hard to get a handle on how they are going to attack the defense. The defensive staff has also schemed very well. Big game against Boerne at home next week. A passing team to test secondary! I suspect the Greyhounds will struggle to contain multiple WHS offense, however.

It is plain to see that Navarro is missing some key pieces that helped it last year have the best team in school history! My hat is off to Wimberley as I was even more impressed with your team this year than last year. Here is wishing our district brothers a fast recovery for your players and a long run all the way to the State Championship!
Navarro will need to beat Fred. next week to advance. All in all I was very worried about moving up to 3a but I feel like Navarro has held their own being the smallest team in the District. All we can do is continue to play as hard as we can each week. Again Wimberley you really have a good looking group of players this year!

Am I reading this right? If Wimberley wins next week, they'll play Taylor?

Max Preps says that Lampasas is 4-0, LH is 3-1 (loss to lampasas), and Taylor is 3-1 (loss to LH). Lampasas plays Taylor to end season. If Taylor wins could be 3-way tie assuming LH beats Burnet. I guess points used somehow to decide district champ and runner up in that scenario. Lampasas should go big. WHS with a win would get runner up in that scenario. If Lampasas wins...and WHS wins...should be Taylor. Taylor had a 41-14 defeat at hands of LH. Therefore, if using points against that puts Taylor as runner up to LH. However, I do not know if points against is tie breaker. If taylor wins and LH loses then LH is runner up.

Seems like the easiest way to handle a 3-way tie (and avoid teams trying to run up the score) would be to just use head-to-head for the D2. Biggest school goes D1, then use head-to-head to break the tie between the D2 schools.

I was not at the game...can anyone tell me how we came out health wise? I was listening on the net and they interviewed coach Nelms before the game and he mentioned that both Alana and Fonville would be back next week with Blakemore a little longer...have you guys heard anything else on the injury front because I thought Fonville had a torn ACL??

We came out with no injuries. Lambert took a hard hit in the first quarter and looked like he was walking gingerly, then followed on the next play with a 45 yard touchdown run. I guess he was baiting Navarro. We came out in good shape. Also noticed Alana and Fonville were moving well. In fact, Fonville was standing on the bench and jumped down without incident. Clear indication that it was not as serious as first thought. That is good news. Defense looked stout with good play from a number of players. It was good to see Robertson and some of the other big offensive lineman playing defense but of course Coach Smith uses the big boys to pinch down on the tight ends and tackles to disrupt the blocking scheme and keep them off our linebackers. Navarro did not cross the 50 yard line until the 3rd quarter and did not go inside our 40 until early in the 4th quarter. Dennis really showed that he can help on both sides of the ball. He played very well on defense and made some good plays both blocking and running on offense. It was a good game by all.

Thanks Snaxet...that is very good news indeed...I was splitting time suffering through the Ranger game and listening to this one...should have gone to this game like I had planned and dvr'd the other. Would have been much more enjoyable...

Sounds like we are just about as ready as we are going to get for the play off run. Of course, as with any successful play off team, we must get better with each game in the play offs, stepping it up at each level. We have the talent, we have the coaching, we have the experience to go very deep...in fact, we have everything we need to find ourselves at the State Semi's again this year. It's all about focus and execution now...and I trust Nelms in this regard.

Thanks for posting the highlights. That must have taken some work to match the radio commentary up with the video.......unless you have some magic software. BTW, the commentators are also really good for the HS level.

The Wimberley passing game is impressive.
