Come on Rangers! Fight and win!

This game is important because out of 54 teams that were 2-2 after game 4 the winner of game 5 won the series 37 times. Even though there are exceptions the odds are that tonight's winner wins it all based on past results.

like him or not CJ was a bulldog last night

got to hand it to CJ! He fought his way out of some very tricky situations. Of course it was HIM that created those sticky situations but he didn't give up. What a great 8th and 9th inning for the Rangers. I think the 9th inning in game 2 and last night proved the biggest difference between these two teams. I bitch and moan for a week about Beltre swinging at the sliders in the dirt and missing by 2' and then he drops to his knees to get to the ball and launches it for a home run. And how clutch has Napoli been in this series? There have only been a few times in this series when I was confident that something would happen but when Napoli was up in the 8th with bases loaded I knew he would at least get the sac fly. The Rangers are making it look WAY tougher than it should but in the end they got it done.

like him or not CJ was a bulldog last night

My biggest problem with CJ is that his best pitch is a deception pitch that is a ball far more often than strike. When teams don't swing he's in trouble. When he throws his pitches for strikes he can be lethal. People are praising Holland. I still think CJ is better than DH but he has just struggled with command in the postseason. If you have one or two "strike" pitches in the Major Leagues you will not succeed unless you throw 96+

Tin Cup
10-25-2011, 09:02 AM
Napoli and Beltre have both had "breakout" years. Why? Because the rest of our lineup is so good that you have no option but to pitch to everyone.

Farmersfan
10-25-2011, 09:15 AM

What can I say? If I wanted to hang out with the girls and giggle over the "Good things" while braiding hair and painting toe nails I could do that at home. I use this forum to express my frustrations and get things off my chest. Unlike a lot of you guys I EXPECT professional athletes to get things done and I like to discuss why they aren't getting it done when they fail. I see no value in holding hands and skipping around singing the praises and greatness athletes who make millions of dollars to be so. The Rangers pulled out a very impressive victory last night. Even little ole' negative me can appreciate that. But we could spend hours debating on WHY they had to perform heroics in the 8th to win it...............

I agree with this. And I would add that it concerns me that CJ doesn't acknowledge his struggles. He asserts to all that will listen that he "Had great stuff" and "Sometimes you just have to realize they are great hitters"! That leads me to believe it will just continue. If you can't acknowledge that you need to improve then it is not likely you will improve. CJ is way too arrogant for his own good. I appreciate his effort last night in hanging in there and getting out of some very bad situations but personally would rather have a pitcher that doesn't put himself into those positions. Especially for a #1 on a World Series team. CJ would be a really good #2 or #3 on this team next season.

CJ clawed his way through 6 tough innings. Proud to see he's got fight in him. Every pitcher has a downside from time to time. Just unfortunate CJ's is during the post season. Any coorelation to pressure? Could be. So far, I don't think he's a #1. He pitched very well through the summer, but puckered up during post season. He's a #2 or #3 at best. Bring in the ace!

Except for that epic meltdown in pitching/defense this past Saturday....nearly every starter has done their part to put the team into position to win this thing. My faves are Nelly Cruz and Kinsler at the plate, and Kinsler/Andrus combining for some awesome defense. Also, Napoli has done everything he possibly can to shut up the critics..

Other than game 4, the Cardinals have looked just as good or better than the Rangers. They are way better than people realize. Good defense, good pitching, and good hitting. Combine that with being hot at the right time and it's a dangerous situation.

Here's my opinion:

Manager: The Home Team
Hitting- Texas
Power- Texas
Speed- Texas (Molina negates this)
Starting Pitching- STL
Bullpen-Push
Infield defense- STL (other than Beltre being better than Freese by a lot)
Outfield defense- Texas

Don't really agree or disagree. Position by position I'd go

1st: Pujols
2nd: Kinsler
Short: Furcal maybe. I like Elvis a lot
3rd: Beltre

It's hard not to be biased but our infield has hurt us a lot and been stunning at others. STL has just been steady in the infield.

1st Pujlos, but not by much over Moreland...yes Moreland struggled last night but in game 4 he made some key digs on low throws
2nd Kinsler
ss elvis..by a long shot..Furcal is steady Elvis has made 4-6 plays that changed the WS
3b Beltre

The Ranger infield gets itself in problems at times because they get to balls they should not..both of Kinsler's errors were balls the St Louis 2nd Baseman would not get close to.

It's hard to believe they got it wrong twice. To be honest I think they wanted Rzep to strike out Napoli. It was actually a good pitch that Napoli hit hard the other way. Napoli hits fastballs a lot better than what Rzep throws, other than just being left vs right matchup that favors Nap

Napoli and Beltre have both had "breakout" years. Why? Because the rest of our lineup is so good that you have no option but to pitch to everyone.

How can you call this a "breakout " year for Beltre? He hit .296 with 32 HR and 105 RBI. In 2004 he hit .334 with 48 HR and 121 RBI. I believe he "brokout" a long time ago.

With Napoli, maybe he has been stadily improving over last 4 years, which he has' and finally reached his potential.

Breakout was in quotes bc I couldn't think of a better word. 2004? I don't care! My only point is that both had a better year bc of the talent throughout the lineup. See Vlady last year to this year.

The important thing is the Rangers as a team have positioned themselves for having success in St. Louis, whether it happens in Game 6 or Game 7. I'm looking for the knock-out punch to occur in Game 6. That lefty the Cards have up next is no milquetoast pitcher. He's the real deal, and will pose problems for our line-up if he's hitting the corners. I look for the Rangers to make this guy work for his strikes, and force him to throw fastballs over the plate. At least, that's what I hope happens.

Believe that's the difference between a true fan and a journeyman critic.

After much deliberation and consideration I would have to say.........................Uh, NO!!!!

Other than game 4, the Cardinals have looked just as good or better than the Rangers. They are way better than people realize. Good defense, good pitching, and good hitting. Combine that with being hot at the right time and it's a dangerous situation.

Here's my opinion:

Manager: The Home Team
Hitting- Texas
Power- Texas
Speed- Texas (Molina negates this)
Starting Pitching- STL
Bullpen-Push
Infield defense- STL (other than Beltre being better than Freese by a lot)
Outfield defense- Texas

Manager: Cardinals
Hitting- Texas (Rangers lead SL in every category except walks)
Power- Texas (Rangers had 58 more HR, more singles, more 2B, more 3B. Cards had more walks which isn't a power number)
Speed- Texas (Rangers had 86 more stolen bases, see numbers for doubles and triples)
Starting Pitching- TX (Rangers gave up 134 fewer hits, 81 more SO, Cards had a slightly better ERA but Rangers had better Avg against)
Bullpen- Push
Infield defense- TX (Other than Pujols)
Outfield defense- TX (by a long shot)

I think Larussa had a hunch and then decided to cover his butt with this nonsense because it didn't work out! I heard on the radio today that Larussa is pretty divisive in St. Louis. Many, many people there don't care for him. And I wouldn't equate a miscommunication with the bullpen to Washington pinch hitting Gentry for Murphy and then German for Ogando when he had Torrealba on the bench. But I also said I wouldn't start Moreland either and you saw how he redeemed himself last night!:clap:

Another question that I have been thinking about some but haven't seen it brought up. During the game last night the 1st base coach kept yelling to the Cardinals runner at first about how he is ok. I assume he was protecting him from a sneak pickoff move. I questioned why the coach would be allowed to yell DURING the pitch. I know that little leaguers get chants going and such but I have hardly ever heard anyone making distracting noises when a pitcher is trying to pitch or a batter is trying to hit. Anyone else hear the 1st base coach yelling at the runner right in the middle of CJ's windup?

Yep. I heard it, too. Fortunately, it didn't make any difference in the outcome. I think the Rangers have to close this series out tomorrow night.

There are mics on the bases so stuff seems louder then it really is. I doubt CJ could even hear him. If it was a problem then CJ would have said something.

Yea there's like 20 mics on the field. How can a coach, telling his player he's ok become distracting to a pitcher? Kind of dumb if you ask me...that's like a coach complaining that the strings on a pitchers glove is too long...just stupid

If this has been mentioned already...my apologies... How many players in either league have the option of calling their own hit-n-run while at the plate as Pujols apparently has/did last night when Craig was thrown out?? Can't say I've heard of this before...
