Cuero will celebrate 100 years of high school football history with the next 30-year exhibit scheduled to open on Friday, Oct. 21 at the Cuero Heritage Museum.
The first 30 years of Cuero and Daule high school history are on display at the museum. The next 30-year exhibit will feature the teams from 1942 to 1971.
Doors will open at 4 p.m. and close at 6:30 p.m. so visitors can attend the Gobblers’ homecoming game at 7:30 p.m. against Poteet.
Refreshments will be served.
The overall record of the Cuero High School teams during the second 30-year period was 135-139-15. The Gobblers won five district championships during those years.
Some of the most notable players during that period were Harold Menke, Gerald Weath-erly, Ed Kelley, Howard Jackson, Henry Sheppard Sr. and Henry Sheppard Jr., Alois Blackwell, and Arthur Whittington.
Daule High School continued playing football until 1965 when the schools were integrated.
