This is one of those huge rivalry games in 283A. Dawgs have been up and down in the last three weeks. Cuero has won both of it's district contests. Who wins this one? I'm going with Cuero, but an upset wouldn't surprise me. Can the Gobblers make it 43 straight?

The Gobblers have had some time to rest this week and when we get Turkey Fest out of the way they will be ready to play some football with our Nabors .This will be a good game as I know that the Dawgs would like more than anything to be the team to end the Gobblers district winning streak but I just don’t see it as Cuero will be getting back a most of the starters who have been injured .Man if you can’t get fired up for this game you don’t have a pulse.

I know for a fact the Dogs were not looking past LaVernia. But, I also seen a team without any spark or emotion this past Friday. I can't figure them out.

Can this Dog team run the table? The one that play's with emotion and desire---yes. Play like they did last night and the table will collapse on them.

Of course I'm hoping for the fired up version this Friday at Bulldog Stadium versus the district defending champion, Gobblers. Like said in a prior post, "if" you can't get up for this one, maybe you should be in the band?

Dog's, you can't afford anymore off nights here on out. Man-up, kick butt. Yoakum wins 28-20. 42 in a row is enough.

Clem, I want the Don Bravo Special with a frozen Rita please.

A rested an injury free gobbler team will ground & pound the dawg to their 43rd district win. Our mission is to win every district game. 21-9.Snot we are going to the ship. But not looking past YKM. we will take one game at a time.

I didn't realize that Yoakum and Cuero were that close until I checked mapquest-It's been a while since I've been in Yoakum

Went there to cover a Boling volleyball play match about 5-6 years ago

Went to cover a football game there when East Bernard played the Bulldogs in either 1998 or 99-Forgot who the Yoakum coache was back then

Bulldogs also get two key starters back that have been out the past 3 weeks. Perfect timing, and we sure need this "shot in the arm" pick me up, from these two.

Our grass has once again died between the hashes. Sorry about the playing surface in advance:confused:

Hear it's getting ripped up after the season and field turf being installed.

I knew Jesse and his family very well when he was in Wharton while working at the Journal-Spectator
I was interviewing him in his office once on a Monday and I got real ill-He had to rush me to the emergency room
I ended up have a gull stone--He staryed there with me until my parents came-I was unmarried at the time

He was called Jumpin Jesse Crow because he would from the press box to the field-One guy from Wharton even wrote a song about him
Last time I heard-He was the AD for the Brazosport ISD

The current field cannot handle the increased traffic. We have 6 CYFL, 5 junior high, and 3 high school teams playing on it. FT reduces cost in the long run and it's playing surface get's better with increased traffic on it.

Monday of Cuero week. Don't get no better then this Dog's. Can right the wrongs here Bulldogs, and get back in the playoff race.

Will the pretenders or contenders take the field Friday for the Dogs?

You sure gave a lot of dedicated effort in the off-season program/2-days to allow this moment to slip away and ruin your goals. Remember seniors, this is your last Cuero/Yoakum game EVER. This game lives with you for a life time I assure you. How do you want to be remembered in Bulldog Football history 20-30 years from now? Give it your all for the name on the front of your jersey, YOAKUM.

You want what Cuero has? Well, it starts this Friday then. Leave it all out on the field and be sure you know in your heart you gave it your all on every play. Win each play, series, quarter. The victory will come from your preparation and attitude heading into Friday. You got to have it within your soul. Man-up!!! Be relentless!!! Be family!!! And most important, be a BULLDOG.

I love this stuff. Pud does it every week, you only do it on rival week. This matchup dates up there with the best. It may be lopsided, but it is a rivalry feel no matter the talent levels. But if you think you getting on this computer and saying that stuff gets the message across to these kids better than the coaches or the kids own knowledge of the history of this game, then your kids are already beat.

I like to think this board is used for updates, knowledge, and finally smack talk and general football conversations. I don't think it is a good form of getting pump up or inspirational or emotional messages to the players; and for some reason I let it bother me when people think it works like that. If your kids need that through this forum, then they aren't all about the football to begin with, and you are pissing in the wind and wasting your breath.

Yes, I always found him so entertaining.

it was part of his stradegy..he'd get the opposing team focused on his antics and forget what they were supposed to be doing.. he was really antimated before he started having serious back issues.. I wonder if he ever got that fixed? He could sing like nobody's business too - He'd sing at basketball games and was very good!

We have worked on that crow for a long time, had a couple of bowls ourselves over the years. It might have a tinge of turkey flavor to it, but it won't be easy getting the ingredients. Looking forward to watching that defense work after this week off. Pleasanton definitley throws well and we go down there. No looking ahead at this time. On a serious note...the Dawgs could maybe pull this out just because of the fact that it is a big rivalry and its in Yoakum. Better hope the Gobblers don't key in on those weaknesses and get Bulldogs down early. There will be no coming back from that. Didn't remember the 2009 game being so close. Probably because I hated football that year because we had one of our worst years ever. Should be a great game this Friday. There will be alot of Gonzales fans and players there. You can bet on it.

Yup, our safety got hurt, and like a good team, Cuero hit a 4th and long as a recall over his replacement to score the winning TD late.

Luling the last team to beat Cuero (21-10) in district with that win back in 2001. Yoakum (won 10-3) and Gonzales (won 34-15) that year, then their run began. Now that's dominating a district, huh?

They started that 42 game district winning streak the last game of the year in 2001 versus Palacios, winning 54-14.

***UPON FURTHER REVIEW***

Cuero's last district loss was 41-11 to Gonzales on Nov. 1, 2002. They beat Luling 35-8 the next week and that's when the district winning streak began. Cuero actually beat Yoakum 10-3 in overtime that year. That was the infamous fumble that led to Cuero's tying field goal. Yoakum last beat Cuero 10-3 on Sept. 28, 2001. Mark Reeve replaced Bill Littleton in 2003 and Cuero never lost a district game under Reeve.

Should I put the "kiss of death" on one of these teams and make a prediction in the longest rivalry game in 3A? Over 100 times they played I believe. Wow!!! And, I think I'm 0-6 in predicting a winner in big matchup games. Turning into a crowaholic.

And, since SH play's Thursday---I'll be making this one in person.

Congratulations to the Yoakum freshman and JV teams who took it to the Gobblers last night and walked away with 2 impressive wins. The Freshman won by the score of 54-26. The JV made a come back run being down 29-6 and won following a successful "on side" kick by the score of 33-29.

Thanks for the update. How about starting a new thread entitled Yoakum-Cuero Scores so we want have to go down through all those posts to find the info we are looking for. How are the Gobblers looking? Sounds like Yoakum is playing tough.

Thanks
