No one bit on my reference on a past thread. LHPM mom have a running joke....What is an encroachment penalty in High School football? Official refs please wait for a few responses. Is it an offense or defense penalty?

I'll bite. Defense making contact with the offense before the snap.

Correct NFL ruling...Defense touching an offensive player before the snap. We see this all the time...Lets play this one out....Maybe we all have a misunderstanding!

Doesn't "Raid" fix encroachment? :D

I thought 'encroackment' was throwing up on a ref's shoes.

I think it is when a def. player jumps and does not make it back before the ball is snapped.

If anyone EVER sees this called in a Texas HS or college game, please post the details here.

And things have not changed since I lived in VA and commented on that thread. Hopefully nobody has seen encroachment called on anyone although the more serious mistake would be to call it on the offense without using preventive officiating.

I admit that I was wrong back then, as most were. Get the same responses today. Still don't understand as it is a penalty either way, why call it different?
Some rules are totally different, in NCAA and HS, like the one foot in bounds or spot fouls vs 15 yards on pass interference.
