Time to start the game talk on this one. Gonzales 6-0 (2-0) meets Houston 5-0 (1-0) on Friday evening in Gonzales. I'm really expecting Snotbubbles to be weighing in on this one pretty strongly. Who do you think will win? Game should definitely be the GOTW for Region IV and may even be the GOTW for 3A statewide.

Let's get this party started. Been waiting for this matchup for a month now. Apaches are for real, and SH has been my #1 team in the polls from week 1. Winner will win district. These two teams are head and shoulders above the rest of the district.

It will be close, back in forth, but--in the end, SH will pull an exciting one out, 41-35.

Yeah, missed this one. LV weaker than I thought. One thing I know, if Cuero can't throw the ball (like 3 attempts last 2 games), it will catch up to them soon cause appears the running isn't to Cuero standards for sure. Cali kid is no TJ. Good luck to ya'll though, maybe you can squeeze out 3rd?

So SB if cuero beats a team I guess their down or weak? Liberty hill won 2 state championships not throwing the football. So that tell me you are not a football coach.

My bad BG61, didn't know Cuero changed to the LH style offense. Thought ya'll were running cause you had no QB to throw it. Good luck with it.

Wish we'd add some pounding to our offense at SH. Spread is good, but--once we get in the playoffs, we might face a team with our speed and we need to pound them with our massive size. It will work in district (the spread) though. Coach Green is sold on it.

We owe ya'll a favor from last year too:)

The Apache Nation Reservation is coming out full force in this one. Probably more die hards there than at Homecoming. The volume level will be unreal. Apaches will come out full force too. They feed off the excitement at Apache Field. I agree, this won't be easy, but I think GZ comes out on top. It will be a fight to the end because I don't see either team letting off. I say GZ by a touchdown!!! Hoping to serve Snotbubbles a plate of crow. I can bring it to you at the half if you'd like.

Hey, if ya'll need some extra seating for all your fans, we'll have plenty available on our side. We have no following. I hear numerous fan's from neither school will be coming, they can sit on our side too.

Noticed last year that SH doesn't have much of a following. That is really too bad for those kids out there bustin their butts everyday. Probably different because of the small town factor. All little boys from K on up here want to be an Apache. There are also not a lot of entertainment choices. It is truly "the place" to be on a Friday night here. You can tell how much we have always valued football by the fact that we stuck the stadium in the middle of town! I know our players and coaches appreciate that and I just wish every kid could experience being a hometown superstar for a night. Just can't wait til Friday!!!!!

Last year, I asked Coach Green why no one follow's them, he told me more than half his kid's don't even know where their parents are. Raised by someone else. He is doing his best to turn SH around and make those kid's have some respect and be accountable. They are coming around from 4, 5 years ago. It was senior night when we played them last year, and 3/4 of the players were escorted by a coach from his staff. No parent present. Yes, football in the inner city is totally unlike what we experience.

Many of the schools are now on a nine week reporting schedule instead of a six week one. I think that is true for Gonzales, so this shouldn't be a factor yet.

Many of the schools are now on a nine week reporting schedule instead of a six week one. I think that is true for Gonzales, so this shouldn't be a factor yet. My wife the teacher says Gonzales is back on the six weeks schedule after trying out the 9 week thing the last year or so. Also, she said for UIL, they had to do a special report at six weeks for eligibility purposes. I guess that keeps everyone on the same level. This should really be a great game, I just hope the Apaches don't try to turn this into a track meet, Sam Houston has the overall best speed that I remember from last year. Both teams return almost all of the same kids from that 12-8 game in SA. Gonzales had several melt downs inside the 10. The Apaches need this to be a really physical game and see if Sam wants to play that type of football for all 4 quarters. I definitely respect those kids and I feel that they will probably bring it for all 4 as well. My heart is with the Apaches, but it is a pick em with the least mistakes making the huge difference.

Actually if you read it correctly, it said that Gonzales has won 3 of the five games the Apaches have played against Houston. Houston won in '62 and '10, while Gonzales won in '63, '64, and '65. '62 was the first year Gonzales ever played anything above 2a ball. '63 was the year Gonzales lost to PSJA on first downs in the state quarterfinals, and '64 was the year Gonzales ended the season tied with San Marcos for the district championship, but lost on penetrations. Gonzales was 20-0-2 in those two seasons.

No they won't! They know that they, yoakum, and sam Houston are the only improved teams in the district from 2010..That wasn't the case in 2010..Also, teams can't line up and run the ball right at them like a year ago.. Their defensive front is much improved..

Mark it down, the winner of GZ/SH will be the new district champ. Seen Cuero, and they are a totally different team without the ability to throw it. If your running it, better have a Strait or Jackson caliber back taking them handoffs. Cuero don't this year.

No team, not balanced, will beat either GZ or SH. Period. Not bragging, just a fact.

You're prolly right. Just saying that until one of you beats them, this game you are playing in tonight, this early in district is just putting one of you in the position to take it from them. How many striaght district games have they won? Do you not both have to play them in Cuero? Just saying. Simply winning this game tonight doesn't gift either one of you the district title. You still have to go to Cuero and take it from them, before it is yours. They are defending it, and have been for years.

Once again you are prolly right, it is just the way it is. If you go to Cuero thinking you have already won it, it will likely be a long and difficult night for you, even if you win.

We got Cuero at the Rock Pile this year. Though, like I said, all SH games are like being on the road, fan support wise. Unlike last year, they will not steal it on a 4th and 20, pass to a TE, after QB scrambled all across the field to throw it. SH will put this away in first half and not allow Cuero to hang around.

You are correct. They are the champs until they face GZ or SH.

Like I said, Cuero was a good champion for several years. All good things must come to an end. Lot of their success comes from teams thinking they are beat before they take the field with them. 40 something straight district wins proves Cuero is among the elite in the state. It's just time for someone else to run with the torch for awhile. No dis-respect, just changing of the guard.

Fascinating. I guess that BIG OL of Gonzalez is doing well against that BIGGER OL/DL of Sam Houston. This game might tighten up a bit.

Apache D has completely shut SH down thus far. I don't think SH even has a first down. Apaches have blocked 2 punts and stopped a fake attempt short of the first down. Apaches getting just enough offense to punch it across.

So SH scored less points in the second half. Maybe not "tighten up" but Gonzo scored less than the first half.

Watch out for Gonzales! They look to be for real.

I wasn't at the game, but I was getting text updates from someone who was.. I'll refrain from making any negative comments about SH - Gonzales evidently is for real this year.......... Nice Win Apaches!

Ok, the Hurricanes fixing to head out. Get that cannon ready, we are "coming to take it".

Snotbubbles, you need a tissue with your plate of bird? Two words for you.....SHUT DOWN!!!! Very proud of the Apaches, the coaching staff, and our whole little town. The reservation was amazing tonight.

AWESOME WIN TONIGHT for the APACHES!!!! Great job to the coaches and players. GREAT GREAT job to the reservation; loudest I heard them in years, people standing and rocking!!!! Fans need to continue this for every game. The boys feed off of it and seem like Coach Lock was feeding off of it too!!!

Congrats district champs Gonzales. Played a awesome game and kicked tail. Hat's off to you.

Now, fire_it_up, give me my weekly crow meal.

This GZ team will go far in the playoffs. Awesome defense.

I sure hope that wasn't the district championship as stated by snotty, personal fouls on sh and a shutout.

I like your prediction of the District champ SB being you have been right with all the others you have made .

Apaches are in the driver's seat, but let's not go there yet. I have said all along that the district championship still runs through Cuero. To be the champs you have to beat the champs. It's got to be one game at a time. Too many things can happen with that funny shaped ball. An injury here or there or an uninspired game could be costly. At this point in the season, Apaches are playing great ball, but it's not over yet.

Nice win Gonzales. Can't say I'm surprised, cause we encountered that tough defense. And, looking at these stat's versus SH, awesome job keeping them less than a yard a carry and just over 100 yards total offense. Nasty "D" for sure.

Heard they carted 5 or 6 Hurricanes off the field. Wish them well and a speedy recovery.

I thought Coach Lock did exactly what the Apaches had to do, be extremely physical with SH all night and see if they wanted to play that kind of football for 4 quarters. Lopez set the standard on the first play with a huge hit on McBride and that's the way it was all night. I know 2-3 of the D-1 kids were out of the game by the 3rd, and hope they heal quickly. Things did get a little nasty in the 3rd, but hat's off to Coach Green and Lock for gathering up the kid and shutting that down. Also to MaGee from SH and Lock from Gonzales for showing leadership and great sportsmanship from then on. Gonzales just flat ruled holding SH to 106 total yards, 16 on the ground. We have a week off to prepare for Pleasanton's air attack in Pleasanton. The Walters kid is a great passer and we need to be ready. Fans, we are in the drivers seat, but you can get car jacked. We need to take them on as they come and we will be ok.

Agree with you but need to set the record straight ... Lock and Magee didn't get the personal fouls in the 3rd... Gonzo's OG and SH 's FS got the personal fouls..

Hay Snotbubbles just because you beat the Aggies by 70 points means nothing look out for the Bears to possibly dash your playoff hopes you have to play them at LV and they have played a brutal predistrict like Cuero did. I don’t know why the Victoria paper had LV as the underdog with Yoakum I think the only TD the Dawgs had was the last play of the game

For the record, I did not say MaGee and Lock got the PF, I said they showed great sportsmanship and leadership getting their teams back together and their heads on straight.
