I'm not sure how the reporter kept a straight face. Yet, even more surprised that this is even a story on the news.

Well i guess I'm just too old but I remember back in the day we had male yell leaders. They were darn good too adding some real entertainment to the cheer leading. First off, they had a PA system and the yell leader would get the crowd into it with some pretty funny stuff. Nowadays the school boards are too afraid to give a kid a microphone in front of 3000 people for fear he or she will say something controversial. I don't know when cheer leading became so feminized but it hasn't always been like that. My high school had 3500 students. We had routinely over 5000 fans on Friday nights. We had a history teacher who would blow his trumpet to the cavalry charge and the whole crowd would yell "Charge!". We had a huge train horn on a large tank of compressed air that would blow so loud we had to warn fans to cover their ears sitting in the rows in front of us. Our yell leaders were capable of some impressive gymnastics and were really funny too in how they interacted with the girls on the squad. It was just more fun back then it seems to me.
