coldspring rushed 25 times for 443 yds, works out to almost 18 yds/carry....

gilbert carried 6 times for 163, a 27.2 yd/carry and a td every other carry, including one :16 into the game (last week was :12, huh g2?)....the two sophs averaged 20 yd/carry....defense held tarkington to 61 total yards, which includes a 73 yd late game run, was a negative yardage night for the longhorns before that run on our subs....a shutdown defensive night....

i know, its tarkington, nothing to get excited about, but when others are on here going on about their backs getting 25-30 carries for 300+ yds, its good to remember that barbay letting his back carry 30 times tonight would have (extrapolating, of course) put him between 700-800 yds for a game if exhaustion didnt set in first....would have allowed for great number padding and personal glory.....its just kinda comparing apples to oranges when comparing the states best rbs, some get more opportunities because their coaches have different priorities (and fewer weapons)......

Van Alstyne beat Farmersville 62 to 55 last night. VA has a running back that the Farmers had no answer for. Jordan Barnes for VA rushed 32 times for 442 yards and VA racked up a total of 665 yards. Not much defense played in this game. The Farmers have surprisingly come up with a pretty good spread passing offense. Chris Stanlely for the Farmers completed 77% of his 30 attempts for 347 yards and 6 TDs. If the Farmers could somehow learn how to play some defense they could make some noise. BYW: I was told by a VA faithful last night that Jordan Barnes has close to 1200 rushing yards already this season. Anyone have access to the VA season stats? The DMN standings don't include VA but at if Barnes has 1200 yards he would be #1 in the North Texas area by a good margin.

Farmersville has one win on the season, against a Emory Rains who also only have one win. Farmersville may only have one or two possible wins left, based on their remaining schedule. What kind of noise are they going to make? Their only conference win will probably be Community.

The last few years we have been somewhat competitive but still only had 1 winning season in the last 20+ years and 3 in 30. We went 7-3 in '07 and finished tied for 3rd in district but didn't get into the playoffs because we lost out on the tie breaker. We are playing pretty well right now at 4-1 but still need to cut down on the penalties in order to compete with the better teams. We think we are pretty close...only time will tell.

That was a fun season but we just couldn't figure out how to win a couple of close games. We think we are better this year because our defense is better.
