42-21 Navasota Final.

Well, this was a game of ups and downs really. Navasota played well overall tonight. They moved the ball successfully on most of their series and their defense played looked good.

It was 13-0 Navasota at the half. In the 1st half we just had too many mistakes. We came back to make it 28-21 with around 6 minutes left to go and then somewhat fell apart. Our RB looked pretty good tonight and I was happy with some of the down field passing we did there in the 2nd half, but turnovers and penalties really hurt us. Obviously there is still room for improvement and I think we will continue to make strides throughout district.

Cameron pushes back, but Navasota holds on for victory

CAMERON -- Navasota took an early lead and withstood a second-half rally by Cameron to beat the Yoemen 42-21 at Yoe Stadium in a cross-class matchup of former district mates.

The Rattler defense forced five turnovers, including two interceptions by linebacker Will Imhoff, and scored touchdowns three times after taking the ball from the Yoemen (0-4).

The sting of two straight two-point losses to the Yoemen was still on the minds of the Rattler coaches and players, especially with both of the losses coming at home.

"I told our kids it would be a tough battle and that we need to play it one game at a time," Navasota head coach Lee Fedora said. "But to be honest with you, it has been a long year waiting to play them the way we lost the last two years to them."

Navasota quarterback Kadarius Baker completed 15 of 21 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Jamison Coles caught three passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while Jacob Malek carried the ball eight times for 56 yards and a touchdown for the Rattlers (3-1).

Leading 13-0, the Rattlers forced a fumble on the first Yoeman possession of the second half, and Baker led Navasota quickly down the field.

His shovel pass to Malek set up a fourth-down attempt from the Cameron 35-yard line, and Baker found Austin Baumert for 14 yards to keep the chains moving. Standing tall in the pocket, Baker hit Austin Collins on a deep out pattern down to the 9. After a 5-yard carry by Malek, Baker twice called his own number and scored on the second run. Malek's pass to Solomon McGinty for a two-point conversion put the Ratttlers on top 21-0.

Then the offensive fireworks began.

Cameron used an end-around pass by Decrick Westbrook to Dylan Riola for 28 yards to get its ensuing drive going, and Keaton Denio rumbled up the middle for 19 more. Denio's 1-yard dive over right guard capped Cameron's first scoring drive of the night.

Baker had a touchdown pass to Collins dropped on first down of Navasota's next possession, but after Collins burst up the middle for 12 yards, Baker again looked deep and connected with Coles. He caught the pass at the Cameron 25, tiptoed along the sideline, then cut back into the middle of the field for a 57-yard touchdown catch.

Jaaon Kopriva, under pressure most of the night, found a new target in Elmo Haynes on Cameron's ensuing possession and finally moved the ball down the field through the air. He went 4 for 4 on the drive, the last pass being a 34-yard strike to Colton Shelton behind the Rattler defense to cut Navasota's lead to 28-14.

Following a Navasota fumble, Kopriva stayed hope for Cameron, mixing his passes to Haynes and Riola and moving the ball down to the Navasota 5. He hit 10 straight passes before missing Riola in the end zone, but Denio again scored, this time on a 2-yard run to get the Yoemen within a touchdown.

Navasota's Baker and Malek needed just three plays to answer after taking over on their own 35. Malek ran 51 yards untouched up the middle to rebuild the Rattlers' lead to 35-21.

Kopriva fumbled while being sacked, and Navasota's Jake Bauer pounced on the football to set up the final Rattler touchdown. Creeks ran 16 yards up the middle to put the game away.
