PALACIOS MUSEUM OPENS HURRICANE CARLA EXHIBIT SUNDAY
The City By The Sea Museum will open a new exhibit commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hurricane Carla on Sunday (Sept. 18) that will run through the end of the year.
Sunday’s opening will be celebrated with a public reception from 3-5 p.m.
The reception will feature Palacios residents who were here at the time of Carla in September 1961. They will be informally sharing their amazing experiences.
“We have compiled a 20 minute video from news clippings and home movies, that will be a special attraction of the exhibit,” said Cynthia Garrett, Chairperson of the Palacios Area Historical Association board.
The exhibit will also include photographs of the devastation and clean up as well as quotes from many residents about the impending storm, living through it and all that happened afterwards.
“Hurricane Carla was a pivotal moment in the history of Palacios and we are eager to share that incredible story with the whole community,” noted exhibit committee chairperson Vanessa Kunefke.
