its hard to forget where we were and what we were doing when we got the news, and how much longer after that before we realized it wasnt just a very bad dream......

Reggie Garrett Sr. holds on to what he has left, a short video on his son's black Samsung phone, which Garrett Sr. watches on repeat each morning as he gets ready for another long workday as a production operator at Firestone Polymers.

Reggie Garrett Jr. is smiling and blowing a kiss for the camera in his bathroom mirror. His father always smiles back as he watches it.

"That's just Reggie being Reggie," he said.

The video lasts five seconds. Then he's gone again.

Tomorrow will mark one year since 17-year-old Reggie Garrett died on the West Orange-Stark sideline. The high school senior had just completed a touchdown pass to his friend, Mark Roberts. An autopsy later revealed Garrett suffered from an undiagnosed genetic heart condition.

And this is the way Garrett Sr., 44, can hold onto his best friend, his only son and see him the way he was - young and carefree.

Garrett Sr.'s life, like so many others close to Reggie, has drastically changed in the last year. But they all hold on to their memories of Reggie.
