Just like Stephenville was terrible about this time last year. And if you don't think we could have hung 66 on them, you are kidding yourself. My point is that we are still figuring some things out, and we got a ways to go, but we will be fine. We play 3A ball. Not 4A Top 3 ball.

Congratulations to Stephenville on a pounding and to a great team! My goodness! What a team. I'm on board now that this week is over. Scored at will. I knew they would be good and have known a lot of these players on the team since they were in diapers. Very proud for them.

Brownwood has potential, but it will take a lot of coaching and some leaders to step up to get to where they can compete with solid teams. Even in 3A. I still believe they can and will. Faith in the kids and coaches. Got to put this one behind ya and move forward.

This is a rivalry game people. If we don't lose our QB (2009), it should be a good one. We will move the ball on Stephenville. We always do. Wylie? You got in way over your heads. It was bound to happen. Our defense is way better than Wylie's. I know that.

Oh and Graham will beat Wylie this week.

That was about as perfect a game the Jackets have played in long time. I have no doubt the Lions will bounce back, They have too much pride and tradition not too. Coach Gillespie said in the pre-game write up in the paper that the butt whoopin we took from Bwood last year was the turning point for our season. It made them as coaches and a team take a step back re-evaluate what they were doing, and we were a better team for it. I have feelin Bwood will do the same thing. Shoot in 2008 we got stomped by Everman 56-3 in district, then came back and went to qtr finals where we lost to Everman again this time 28-24.

I believe we have legit shot this year, just have to stay healthy and have a little luck a long the way.

If you did beat Burnet that year, then that game must not be showing up on lonestarfootball.net... then again only 6 of Burnet's games from that season show up... and in those 6 games they were 1-5... so go pat yourself on the back for beating a terrible 3A that year. Goldthwaite however has 16 games show up on lonestarfootball.net for that season (none of which are Burnet), which further makes me think you don't know what you're talking about (as if you thinking Goldthwaite could beat Brownwood wasn't enough evidence).

Not only could your 1993 team not have beaten any team we've ever put on the field, they probably wouldn't have beaten our 1993 team! We also had some boys go D1 that year. Our 1993 team beat 5A quarterfinalist Abilene Cooper in Abilene. I bet they were good enough to have won state in 2A. We went 10-3 that year in 4A.

You remind me of the guys from Bangs a few years ago that thought just because they lost in the 2A state championship they could have beat Brownwood that year (we lost in the 4A semifinals that season), or the guys from Early who ended their 58 year playoff drought and went 3 or 4 rounds in 2A and thought they could beat Brownwood. Get real.

I know this isn't really accurate but it's the best data we have from then, I had to start with Goldthwaite's schedule and click until I found a path to an opponent Brownwood had for that same season. Looking at data from then, it's fair to say Lake View was better than Snyder (Lakeview lost to Big Spring by 18 while Snyder lost by 31). Snyder beat Wylie by 4 which figures Lake View could have beat Wylie that year. Wylie beat Early even worse than Goldthwaite beat Early, which means LakeView could have beaten Goldthwaite. Brownwood beat LakeView 42-14. See scores below:

Snyder beat Wylie 24-20

We tried two, first one got blocked, hooked the second one (probably rushing it to beat their rush).... they have VERY good linemen on both sides of the ball. Still no excuse, both of those drives should have been TDs, they were both drives we started on our 20 & 24 and wound up at their 6 & their 5... but once we'd get inside the 10 we'd go backwards. I think Stephenville's next two opponents are both 5As, teams that beat them last year. I'm anxious to see how they do against them.

Reminds me of when Bud Adams was doing radio play-by-play in the booth during the Oiler meltdown against Buffalo when they were up 35-3 in the 3rd quarter during the play offs. Each time Buffalo scored, Bud Adams would say "no worry, we still are up 25 points..", then "...we're still up 18"..." up 11"..."up 4"...

Finally, when Buffalo went up for good, Bud said "Well, no worries, we still have 3 time outs".

Here are just a few stats. The Jackets had 590 yards on 49 plays. Sville had 416 rushing and 174 passing. QB Tyler Jones had 11 carries for 205 yds rushing with 1 TD, Edwards had 12 carries for 116 rushing with 5 TDs, and the backup RB Cameron Burris had 13 carries for 95 rushing with 1 TD. Jones was 11-13-0 for 174 yds passing with 1 TD. The defense was just as good holding Bwood to 226 total yds, 163 rushing and only 63 passing.

The Jackets have a big test next week as they take on the first of two 5A opponents in Lewsiville Hebron. Hebron is the better of the two remaining non-district opponents. Hebron beat Mesquite Horn 21-20 last night. Horn is the Jackets final non-district opponent after Hebron. We very well could get humbled next week.

Love em' or hate em'---the Brownwood folks are entertaining, and, yes, off the hook sometimes, but they ARE rabidly loyal, win or lose. There are a lot of programs who just can't say that about their fan support. A 66-0 beating by an archrival is a pretty harsh pay-back punishment for anybody.

Yep, we got our arse handed to us Friday night, but the season is a long way from over. Coach Shipley has a lot of coaching to do, but somehow I think he up for the task. As for us fans, you can kiss where I can't, the Tradition rich Brownwood Lions are always better than any team you could ever field. And as to Goldwaithe Eagle1, see last Friday night.

I can say as a Brownwood alum and Fan that at least Brownwood has a Loyal following that has lasted for decades and will continue to last for decades. We win and lose in every facet of life on a daily basis. We are far from perfect and never will be perfect. Yes we talk smack about our team and the pride that comes with being a Brownwood Lion. We love our kids and show it by being rabid supporters of our Lions. Our pride and infatic love for this sport and our team seems to pour out without any reservation. This, we as true Brownwood Lion fans will NEVER apologize for. This might be because we hold our team to the highest standard attainable year in and year out. Our love of the game and our team will never be questioned win or lose. Our kids as a team learned a few things last Friday night and with the help of our coaches they will get things figured out and right the ship.
Stephenville has the same type fan base we enjoy and you know that Brownwood had a whole lot to do with Making Stephenville who they are. They were a fan base that got to watch Brownwood dominate them for 27 losing seasons until they hired Briles. Then once they had Beat Brownwood their fan base was energised and the rivalry began. It has been that way ever since. Say what you will but most Brownwood fans cheer for Th'ville to do well year in and year out. I for one hope they get that 5Th star this year as many other Lion fans do. No disgrace in losing to them nor at the same time predicting your team will succeed every week. We have Coaches and fans that believe in their kids and support them in every way. At the end of the day WE will still be boastful Proud Brownwood Lions and *sigh*.. *wink*....well..... I agree. "Some" (not all) Brownwood posters are really not at all interested in discussing the game or in hearing what another team may bring to the table.
