PCA is big. They have a 6'9" receiver and a 300 lb OL that are going D1.

We should be kicking the crap out of them, we have out played them in all areas. They have scored twice on jump balls to their 6'9 and 6'5 receivers we can't cover them they are to tall. We have thrown an int and had 6 or 7 penalties that have been drive killers.

I don't like blaming refs, but they were awful tonight. We made some bone headed plays that deserved penalties, but 16 for crying out loud to Prestonwoods 1 give me a break. Prestonwood was really good and alot better a bigger than I thought they would be. They would give any team in 3a all they wanted.

Well after sleeping on it..... that was an ugly way to win..... but the refs gotta be kiddin me. there were two or three phantom calls on them that I could see. But the truth was we played ourselves into a hole. A lot of jumping by the d but I think they were just pressing. it is hard to play the special against a good spread team the lineam go all night and don't feel like they doing anything most of the night. But that steady pressure limits the QB and his reads even if you don't get there. The pass d was not as bad as the stats. we gave up way too many second chances by penalty. And prestonwood plays the spread as well as anybody we have faced. I would say they have a good shot at a 3peat this year. That would give them 4 since 2005. They are a good and well coached team... My hat is off to the Bobcats for sticking it out and coming back against a really solid football team that played nearly mistake free all night. They were impressive.

The O made a few mistakes but still look pretty impressive to me. The front 7 on Prestonwood are big fast and aggressive. That group is as solid as a rock. Their corners and safeties were fast and hard hitting. Nice defense. That is what made the O really look impressive. They could grind them all night and did for the most part. We usually stopped ourselves.

As sad as it is to say, Celina beat a very good team, the zebras, and the folks running the clock. Refs: eight or ten offsides calls and not a single motion penalty? Not no way, not no time could that scenario happen. Celina made several dumb off-sides mistakes, but in view of the refs ignoring blatant holding repeatedly in plain view, the jump to ignoring or not seeing offensive motion calls seems pretty logical. The flag thrown on the play when Simmons ran in a long TD came after it was plain he would score and involved a late pushing contest which had nothing to do with the play. P'wood was up 12 points with 3-4 minutes left, the refs and the clock guy allowed fifty seconds to bleed off the clock with everone on the West side trying to get that clock stopped. Well in the end, what do you bet P'wood would have loved to have back those fifty seconds? P'wood was a smooth operation with outstanding athletes. The activities of the refs/clock person, appear to have given the Celina kids a psychological boost. The officiating blares incompetence rather than intentional. Homers personified. Celina's kids gutted up and beat the whole bunch.

Prestonwood is not a new school. I believe that they began their athletic program in 2000. At least, that's as far as I could find history for them. They are the defending back to back TAPPS Division 1 Champs and have 3 football championships.

They are big, athletic, and very well coached. I noticed they had a 6'6" and 300 lb offensive lineman. They also had receivers that were 6'5" and 6'9".

I was very impressed with the Lions. While it may have been a 1 point victory, I feel fortunate to have beaten a very good football team last night. They can play with any 3A team and would provide matchup problems.

09-03-2011, 09:48 AM
Yes they do that..... they were solid. No glaring weaknesses. Their receivers were very difficult to match. it was not a very pretty game as the flags were flat crazy and that clock thing was a joke. They actually did that twice during the night the first being at the half when we had the ball with less than two and were driving. They did put that back. But the ref's may have screwed that one as they never signalled the clock to stop and they were holding up the game.

PCA is an outstanding passing team but they do have a weakness in that they cannot run the ball. The reason that Celina was able to come back had much to do with PCA's inability to get 2-3 first downs and run out the clock when they were up by 12 points.

I would have thought with that big oline they had they would have had a good running game.

What Celina learns from this one is that against a GOOD spread team is that we better take care of the football...

It's similar to 7-on-7 in that whoever makes a couple stops, generally wins, turnovers not factored in.

I love the 'finish what you start' in these young men...
