Ok, I know that 99% of you dont care, but those that have kids that participate in baseball might find this interesting. Due to end of course testing starting this year, the uil is planning on to totally screw over the baseball playoffs. They are going to have a hiatus after the bi district round where no one will be able to play for 2 weeks. They will then pretty much do away with 2 out of 3 and make most rounds 1 gamers. Dist. cert will be May 1 with bi dist cert. May 5th. Area cert. will not be until May 19th. Teams will then have all of 3 days to play the regional quarters by May 22nd. Reg. Semis will be determined by May 26th and Region finals by June 2nd. The state tournament will then be June 6-9. If this is something that you dont want to see, I suggest you go to the UIL website and email Daryl Beasley, he is in charge of baseball for the UIL. There are two organizations that truly hate baseball, the UIL and the NCAA. Please call around and let others know what is going on.

I agree with you, but your anger is misdirected. Principals and supts are the ones calling this shot. The UIL is just obliging them. With budget cuts, the apparent loss of education's status in the state government, and now a new test, administrators are on the hotseat. What this does is take the pressure off admin and the UIL has agreed to be the martyr.

I hear you, ETB. Normally, doesnt the UIL poll the superintendents or ADs or both when they make overhauls of such things? The way I heard it, no one was asked and the UIL just made the change on its own. You are a coach so maybe you know more about this process than I do. Either way, there is going to be alot of unhappy folks. And yes, I know that some will say just dont have baseball playoffs at all. For those folks, just remember that if the UIL can do this to baseball, there is a chance they could screw over the sport you love. Maybe the UIL will say that since its hot in Aug/Sept we will just start football Oct 1. Play 5 district games, and go to the playoffs. I would hate to see that happen as much as yall. Just saying, UIL does nothing that helps kids even though they say that is their mission. They start with this, and what is the next thing they screw with?

Thank you for your support on this issue.

In a situation such as this the UIL doesn't poll supts, they just do it. State law mandates that games can not be played on state testing days so like it or not, the UIL has no choice but to do it this way.

Exactly. No one was polled, but since it's a state law already, they just did it. But, still, the UIL isn't the bad guy here.

i have friends that are uil baseball coaches...and they've said for years that due to state testing, and " uil contest days"...many high schools cannot schedule their total allottment of games as it is.

All this will do, if passed, is give two weeks of playoff teams from other classifications play each other in warm-up games.
Teams will get their work in, believe me.

Dang. All this time, I thought TEA determined state testing and that there are no contests on those days.

Shoot, we don't have community league stuff on those days. Does UIL control that too?

This is not a proposal, its what they have posted as the dates for next season. During the open two weeks, there will be NO games and Im not sure how much practice time. Im guessing TEA will have students escorted home from school and have the go to preparing for the next days tests. Im sure no high school student will work during those days, stay up late, etc. Ha ha ha. yea right. This is just a crock.

You also cant play a playoff game the night of a test either... even if there is no test the next day. That is because some basketball coach somewhere got his kids out of class WAY early and a kid wasnt finished with his test

Basketball and baseball are the devil. No testing during football season. Just sayin'

ETB, good thing for you, that new school you are at doesnt believe in hoops or baseball either. Im thinking all testing should be done on Fridays in Nov. and Dec. lol
