Think of a team that you used to always hear of or always seemed like they were going deep in the playoffs every year, but have seemed to fall off the map or you never hear of again. To me, seems like Comfort and Galveston Ball

Last really good Comfort team I saw was against Blanco a few years ago. After that, seems like theyve went down.

Gainesville made it to area last year...they are coming back some...Commerce is a real good example...Atlanta is another...if Sweetwater has another bad year or two they could be lumped in....

in 4A Cleburne is one that comes to mind..

Yeah, ive been to one game there, back in the mid to early 90's . Was really unique stadium back then. Had turf before any of the small schools had it. Still neat place to watch a game

Brittan's last two teams at Wichita Falls were stout...that 2000 team went 14-a and lost an absolute heartbreaker in the semis to Ennis

Class A schools are limited by athletes...usually. When certain schools have 'em they are good, when not, they aren't. The best example that I can think is Munday. When the Moguls have athletes, they are good, when they don't they aren't.

Boyd had a good run just 2 years ago (lost to Pilot Point who won it all) and Cisco is still good. They had 1 down year but should bounce back this year and go at least 2 or 3 rounds deep.

Iraan was 9-3 last year, 9-2 the year before. That's hardly a disappearing act.

Sonora.... my junior and senior year, they were put in our district (Comanche). 180 miles one way! That was some hall in both football land basketball.

Breckenridge were hosses back in the day. They had a little oil money and always ended up with some really fast transfers from the smaller towns. They had one of the last drop-kick filed goal kickers in the state - Mike Funderburg.

I have tried to avoid saying it due to the friends on here that are Sweetwater supporters. However, they have taken a huge nose dive. Heres hoping that this season Sweetwater returns.

I think they will. Slaughter is a good coach. Add ontop of that the town is very active in building the town better. The new plant will also bring in new jobs which should increase population in the town as well as enrollment. It might be a 10 year plan but they will get better.

McKinney High.
Back in the day, when Ron Poe coached there, they were a top shelf program. It seemed that every year they made deep playoff runs. Then McKinney opened a 2nd and then a 3rd HS and Old High hasn't been the same. I saw them play Denison year before last and they had the worst defense I have ever seen! Denison scored about 80 but it EASILY could have been 100+.

SLC may not be as dominant as they once were but they are still very good. Last year they were 10- 4 and went to the Qtr Finals. In TOC mag they have them ranked 9th this pre season.

That's him. Mark got the Brownwood job after Randy Allen, I think, and probably wasn't ready for that kind of spotlight. He, his wife and kids are good people. That staff that he put together in Wills Point had a distinctly Brownwood flavor. There were 3 or 4 Brownwood guys who were with him there and I can't remember everyone but I do remember his OC. He was the QB on The Lion's last State Championship team, Tyler Tabor. I think he is still there as a principal or vice principal.
Mark's brother was the HC at Waco Midway for years too and he just retired before last season.

These days they can't keep a coach or hardly enough kids 9-12 to field an 11 man team. But man................the good old days sure were fun!!!

The plant is still slated to go in about 9 miles East of Sweetwater, Tenaska has had some issues finding water for plant operations but have recently signed an agreement with Stamford for a portion of their water needs. The air quality permits have been, or are close to being issued, and it is looking like it could happen. I have been watching this pretty close due to my company, we could stand to gain from the plant ourselves.
