Says something about today's kids! While I'm not sure what he could have done with the scholarship since he already has a full scholarship, it speaks to what kind of person he is. I applaud him loudly.

Great gesture by this young man. Helping out his fellow classmates that way says a lot about his character.

Okay, maybe I'm missing something, but how does this not violate NCAA rules?

And it's an incredible gesture on the young man's part.

It wasn't cash money the kid was to receive, it was scholarship money which he dispersed amongst the other competitors...i think

It was an event open to ALL students who earned a 3.0 or better GPA, not just student athletes, therefore there was no reward for him being an athlete, just a good student. Kind of like fundraisers in high school. If the fundraiser is by an athletic organization only (football, basketball, volleyball, etc) and only student athletes can participate, it is a violation of the "rewards" rule for any participant to be rewarded with "valuable consideration". It has to be open to the entire student body or it is considered a reward for being an athlete.
