He just set the Texas Ranger record for most games played. Is he the greatest Ranger to ever play?

Please don't tell me that you think that makes him better. Just take a look at where Pudge is on any list that you want for catchers. Mike has been a very good player for a very long time. Pudge was a great player for a really long time. Compare Pudges offensive numbers vs other catchers...that is a much more relevant comparison.

Not even close to the best. Nobody will say it but Alex Rodriguez was the best player the Rangers ever had. One of the top 10 players of all time in his prime.

i think my is a much better hitter with pudge never getting above 199 hits in a year and MY hitting 200+ hits several times. pudge is the better all around player bc he was much better defensively and i will say that pudge is the best catcher to play the game

see i agree with you, but he only played 3 years. i was looking for more of a true ranger. hell a rod blows every ranger out of the water lol

These are all decent numbers, but not entirely outstanding compared to the rest of his career

Unless they play in the national league where they at least bat, but even then you get a position player with ten times more at bats.
Comparing those to is like comparing numbers of michael jordan to Walter Payton. Its not possible.
Yes Nolan Ryan was a very good pitcher for the rangers but like it was said he didnt play long enough to be considered the best. unless your using career stats, then it would be no contest.
A Rod was good too but the same thing, he didnt play enough to be considered the best Ranger.
Michael Young hasnt played enough in 1 position to have the stats to be considered the best either, changin from ss to 2nd to 3rd and now utility. Now if we are talking about utility players that would be no contest. As a batter he is by far the most consistent that the Rangers have ever had, And could be in the running for the best hitter of the Rangers.
My opinion as far as all aspects of the game, would have to be pudge, Because he had more golden gloves and was at the top of the list every year offensively.

Sorry but I have to disagree. Rafael Palmeiro was the most productive and consistent hitter in Rangers history. His power numbers and career batting average separate him from any other Ranger.
Palmeiro- 569 HR (12th), .288 BA, 1835 RBI (16th)
Young- 161 HR, .300 BA, 853 RBI

It isn't close!

It isn't close! Not talking home runs, Just consistant good batting average. How many years did palmeiro have 200 hits? I'm guessing not to many.
ANd being the most consistent hitter does not mean you are the best hitter overall. Just that your a player that we know what we are gonna get from you each and every year.

Half of Palmeiro's production came in Baltimore though.

Pudge Rodriguez has a legitimate claim to being the best catcher in MLB history. The vast majority of his best years were in Texas (yes, he's now played 7-8 seasons elsewhere, but only 1-2 of those were on par with what he did with Texas.

I think it's hard to gauge Michael Young right now, because realistically, he has probably 4 years or so left in his career. At the pace he's going, he has an outside shot at reaching 3,000 hits for his career, at which point he'd be a lock for the Hall of Fame and could be the first Rangers-only member of the Hall of Fame.

In Palmeiro's 10 seasons with the Rangers he averaged 95 runs, 169 hits, 32 doubles, 32 hr's, and 103 RBI's. He was the most productive hitter, for an extended period, in Rangers history. It's not really debatable because his numbers are just too good.

He may not be the best but I would say he's in the top 5.

Sorry I cannot call him an unselfish star..he has twice asked to be traded and only when no deals were made he "decided to do what is best for the team"

and when Texas traded for him they did not say he was their SS of the future

and the article says he was rated the best defensive SS when the Rangers asked him to move to 3B..but provides no proof of that

then it says he never complains..but he has..alot..even called the GM a liar

But I do agree with you he has been very vocal lately due to the "treatment" of him. I am like get over it and collect your check that most of us will never see in a lifetime.

I did love me some Jules Franco. Canseco was/is a dohche bag. Chuck Hough was really good AND a 3+ pack a day smoker, 2 during the game. He smoked all of the time when he was sitting in the bullpen on days he didn't pitch and in the dugout during games he did pitch. It was hilarious!

You don't have to be a perfect physical specimen to throw a 50 mph knuckleball :D

You just have to able to duck if you throw a bad one.
