I saw ET in 1982. ET Part 2 has more explosions, but it is basically the same script. Scarier alien with no Reese's Pieces.

I just got back and it reminded me a lot of ET and Stand By Me.

Super 8 is J.J. Abram's homage to the films of Steven Spielberg, so there should be noticeable similarities.
