Cooper scores two runs, Brownwood leads 9-2

On a single by Cooper the Brownwood pitcher (McShan) was hit by the ball. He was down for a bit, but got up and is coming out of the game. This isn't good... Brownwood has already lost 2 of our top 4 pitchers to injury....

They just said he was hit under the right eye by the ball when it came off the bat. He has a cut and swelling but hopefully will play tomorrow.

I think Brownwood vs. Kennedale would/will be a great match-up. I have seen both teams play and was impressed by each.

Daughter says he had a couple butterfly bandaids on the cut last night, not positive but I am thinking he is okay with the exception of a nice shiner for graduation tonight. Probably pretty sore also, he didn't get grazed, he got a direct hit. If I hear anything else I will update later.

Just got word from the McShans. Vance has several fractures in the bone under his left eye. They are being hooked up with a specialist this morning and it will most likely lead to surgery. I suppose we just lost him for the remainder of the season.

Kennedale lost game 1 Friday night to Andrews 4-3 in 10--Kennedale pitched both their aces.

Hope he heals well. On a selfish note... that sure puts us in a bind for the remainder of the season!

No good. I hope he heals okay. That sounds like it comes with a ton of pain. Thats a bit more than "battle scars". I feel bad now.

I know that they never will but I wish pitchers in softball and baseball were required to wear a mask. I loved for my daughter to pitch and she was never hit in the face (took a line drive to the knee once that put her on the bench for two weeks) but it is scary when a ball comes back at them. Again, I know they would fight it but a man can dream!

I'm with ya, Vance never had a chance to defend himself, the ball was coming to fast. I doubt he even seen it coming.

Wood bats would fix most problems.

Vance is a tremendous athlete. He took over at QB last year after the first two QBs got injured and led us 3 rounds in to the playoffs and he has been a very solid performer both batting and pitching in these playoffs. This is a very unfortunate thing for him, hopefully he recovers quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Rumors always fly around these situations but I got a text at 10:30 this morning that reads:

Please keep one of Brownwood's senior baseball players in your prayers. He took a line drive to the face last night and after Xray/MRI it shows he has a crushed sinus cavity and will need reconstructive surgery. He will also be out the rest of the season. Thanks....

Hope not.

I got my info from Vance and his dad. I like my sources!!

It all hinges on what the Dr says next week.

Vance is a premier athlete and a great asset to the Brownwood Lions! Hope he recovers speedily, but I for one do not wish for the young man to risk greater injury. Competative as he is, the doctor says he can, he will play. Prayers for the young man!

Crow will still be batting this week but has not been cleared to pitch. He may get to pitch next week if we are fortunate enough to get this win tomorrow.

Does anyone know anything about Stephens yet? Maybe someone that gets the Bulletin can find an article?

Stephens was cleared today by the doctor. Don't know how much he will play, but he will be available. He has been throwing bullpen for several weeks.

I know last week Dallas said that Stephens was in uniform if we needed him he would be available to pitch.

I wonder if he'll be able to bat tomorrow. It's nice to have him as an option in addition to Graylon for pitching.
