Crappie jigs always catch some when I fish. Nasty dang bottom feeders. I don't even let them get in my boat and slime everything up.

Blood bait works good on rod and reel or trotline.

You may not let them in your boat, but I bet you can do some damage at an all you can eat catfish buffet. :D

When I was a kid during the summer we always had 5 or 6 trotlines baited all summer. We had to take turns getting up early and running the lines with Dad before he went to work and then run them again before bed. It was almost a job.

Anyways, early in the summer dad would go to the feed store and buy slabs of "cotton seed cake". I remember him in the garage cutting them in squares with a skill saw and drilling a small hole in the cente of each of them. We would have to take each hook and swivel string off the line and thread the cotton seed cake thru it and replace it on the line. This took a long time but that bait would last on the line as much as a month and let me tell you..... WE CAUGHT SOME CATFISH!!!

We also caught some turtles, snakes and gar but the majority of what we caught were catfish and big ones. We would have a couple of large baskets in the trap doors of out dock full of fish by the time the weekend got there and spend a half day or more on saturday cleaning them....... Mom bagged and froze the fish and we never had a shortage of fish to eat or share with family friends. The ironic thing is my dad does not eat fish but he sure used to love to get them off a line!
