Gilmer-tatum

I don't really see this as that much of a rivalry. Just got lots of attention a couple times when both were ranked #1 in their respective classes. There seems to certainly be a lot of mutual respect in this game though.

Between 5,000-6000 people at the game, and we don't make the list. Would have happened even if not for district championship:mad:

If we are fortunate enough & Monahans is fortunate enough to get to where we consistently meet in the playoffs, that could turn in to one. Last year's 4th round game had 16,000.

Impressive. Sweeny and West Columbia have roughly 8,000 residents combined. It felt like a playoff game with 5,000-6,000 people.

since it did not just say 3A

Marshall vs Longview...last year in the official 100th meeting they had a huge brawl that made national headlines( the rivalry itself has made maxim magazine among others)

If this isn't limited to 3A (I know that at least some of the schools mentioned are not 3A) then Sherman v Denison should be on the list. They have played 113 times and the city limits meet. I know that we are all jaded by location but I doubt seriously that there are 2 teams that have played more times and I know that no 2 towns are closer together than these 2. It gets my vote as Biggest Rival in Texas HS football.

Although they haven't played for a while La Marque and Stephenville was fun in the 90's.

The La Marque/ Calallen rivalry was renewed this past football year as well.

Monahans is around 6,800 people, yet somehow they had a good 7K at that game themselves. I'm guessing their school district probably extends all over parts of their county.

Monahans has always traveled well going back to the 80's. A lot of their alumni have jobs/careers
in the Midland/Odessa area. So, when a playoff game comes around, they are traveling about the same distance as the Monahans folks.

Bridgeport has a huge following too. Both them and Monahans have had to epic battles in Mustang
Bowl in 2005 and 2008. The Bowl was packed for both games.

That's something that's great about 3A. I think the playoff crowds are bigger than they were in 4A. For the most part, 3A towns seem to travel well (when their school is winning).

You hit the nail on the head there. Our stands were empty in 2009 when we went 1-9. Last
year was much better because we started out 4-1 on the season. Then district play happened. Lol

I agree, GP77 had a great photo of the Brownwood/Monahans game from the endzone. At the Bridgeport game they announced standing room only on our side 15 minutes before the game.

3A is a blast.:)

Cameron vs Rockdale is a time honored rivalry but I would also say that 19 3-A (Waco 3A District) is developing some rather intense rivalries over the past 10 years.

If you want to talk numbers... 18,000- 20,000 at Floyd Casey for Region III Finals in 2007 .... China Spring Vs LaVega.
