We're 98% hispanic, the majority of which are from south of Laredo. I told them the story of the sinking of the ship full of mayonaise, and so far everyone has believed it.

Uh.

The final score was like 1500 to 186.

It all depends on how you keep score.

but if i remember my history....the alamo battle cost the mexicans men and time.....could of just gone around it. Family pride was a problem for Santa Ana................the Texicans and others were on the run in E. Texas.

could of rested his starters for a while.

Now, if you REALLY remember your history, what was Santa Ana's quote regarding the lives of his men?

Besides, militarily, you don't leave an entrenched force behind you, it would cut off his line of support. It was actually more of a blunder for Travis to have defended it. Had the fort been smaller, with the same number of cannon, they probably could have held out for LOTS longer. The conclusion was inevitable. Brave, but foolhardy.

They're from the valley? Oh DOIS MIO!!!

ETB, was it Miracle Whip or plain mayo that sunk? If it was Miracle Whip you could really have fun with the story. Like this:
"Did you know the reason why Miracle Whip got it's name? You see while all the mayo was lost at sea every one of the passengers survived. It was said to be a MIRACLE... so that's how it got it's name.";)

Seriously doubt 1500 casualites on the Mexican side.
No more than half the Texicans were on the walls at any one time and there were not more than 2,400 Mexican soldiers total.
More like between 300 to 400.

Once the Mexicans breached the North Wall it was everyman for himself. The vast majority of the defenders of the Alamo were killed outside the walls making a break for it over the low log palisade between the mission and the main gate where the Menger now stands. Outside the walls they were easy picking for the Mexican Lancers.

most credible reports say the Mexican army had 1500 men with 400-600 casualties..so a 1/3 of the army used...typical Santa Anna style as he did not care how many of his soldiers were hurt or killed
