How much authority do school principals have over head coaches and/or AD's?

Depends on the District and how they are set up. Schools that are 3A-below that are doing it right the Principal is head over Academics/Staff and answers directly to Supt. A.D. is over Athletics/staff and answers directly to Supt.
This means that Princ/A.D. work together but not for each other.

In practice, Bolshavik is correct. I understand there is a state law that the principal does not have to have anyone on their campus that they don't approve of. Of course, the supt can get rid of that principal so mostly they try to work together.
