vBulletin Software Upgrade?

With the summer months fast approaching, and with the slower activities on 3ADL during the summer, we are considering upgrading the 3adl forum software to the latest vBulletin. The latest software from vBulletin would be a drastic change from what you are currently used to seeing here on 3ADL. This is why we want your input.

We would also be able to launch our own mobile forum software for both iphone and android devices, which would allow you access to the forum without having to visit via your phones browser. Since this involves paying the upgrade fee with user donations, we want to give you the time to input your suggestions. The upgrade cost for the forum would be $250.00, then the mobile software would be an additional $100.00.. Please provide your input and suggestions on the forum upgrade.

I say upgrade, add the smart phone apps, and do away with multiple forums.

Do the upgrade and add the mobile capabilities as well. That would probably allow a clearing-house for game score reporting from mobile devices? I'm in, and would donate some.

Tapatalk looks like it can be implemented. It's probably what vBulletin suggests as its "Mobile App". I'll look into it more to confirm.

We do have enough donations to cover the cost for upgrade. Donations are always appreciated, though! It helps to have several months of money saved up for our monthly server bill.

It would make formatting post 1000 times easier. You would be able to do simple things like highlighting a word, then clicking the B and it would bold it. Instead of clicking the B, typing in, then having to copy and paste it from the bottom of the post. Depending on what they get and let us do, you wouldn't have to click preview either, it would show up right away.

The blue lines will change to orange and the name at the top of the page will be different.

I just don't want to lose all the old posts with the upgrade. Will the upgrade affect the data base and the access to old posts? There is now a pretty good wealth of history and great information. If all remains and is searchable, then do the upgrade!
