Do you think that the majority of good teams are located in towns which are 50mi. or less from large towns (100K or more)?
Is "overflow" from these larger towns a factor, if so?

Maybe. Kids can go to school in the burbs while Mom and Dad go to the city to work.

In 3a I still think overall enrollment is still the biggest advatage. But no doubt the Argyles of the world have a bit of an advatage over the schools like Fairfield who are nowhere near a big city.

Not necessarily. Towns that are growing tend to be more successful than those that are stagnant or declining. It is all part of my "je ne sais qua theory" of small town success.:nerd:

Where have the last 10-15 State Champions come from? Or maybe look at playoff history over the last 10-15 years (wins-Losses in the playoffs) Some really good programs play multiple rounds but don't quite make the SC game.

Nah, couldn't be, Celina just has a knack for raising NFL quality linemen every year. :D

It might be happening in 4A and 5A, but look at 5 of the last 6 3A state champions: Carthage (3), Gilmer (1), and Henderson (1). The nearest town of 100k is Shreveport. Tyler has almost 100K, Longview has almost 80K, so if you base your theory on that, I'd say no. I don't see it our part of the state, but it could happen in other parts.

the better teams have a local private school to send the smarter (and usually less athletic) students to so the high school's numbers stay down......

beware, we're getting one........:D

the number of local scholarships given to the private school are usually in direct proportion to the success brought to the local team......:(
