Yep. Started out with over 90 applicants. Field was cut to under 70 quick, then seemed like over night they were down to 6. Came down to him and Burrows from Groesbeck. They made the hire 3 weeks after they started taking apps. I don't believe they were looking very hard for a new AD. I'm still puzzled over it.

He is a Wing-T coach... the paper says he makes no appologies for being a Wing-T coach...

What happened to all the detailed requirements about successful experience (State Championships) or 4A-5A experience etc?

From what I have read his record at Moody was 6-24. ?????????
Having requirements of "must have played in a 4A or 5A semifinal or state championship in the last 3 years" to selecting a coach with a 6-24 record? Just don't get it.

I have no problems with Coach Gillespie, if given the right resources I am sure he will do fine. But why put all those requirements on the posting if they are not followed?

Moody had been terrible prior and the entire athletic program was in shambles...numbers down etc...he's left Moody in GREAT shape and making the playoffs there is a major accomplishment....the guy can flat out coach.

GREAT hire for West. Sam began his career in Forney and was a football and head baseball coach and took his last team to the state tourney. When Maxfield left Forney to go to Burleson, he took Sam to be his DC. Was at 5A Burleson as the DC for a few years before leaving for his first head coaching job!

I would work with him in a heart beat!
