Any good bands we need to know about?

I heard a young kid in San Antonio last summer that was amazing. Great guitar player and powerful voice. Their name was Band 46. That kid needs to be recording.

Hands down--"The Lotions". Used to play in a lot of night clubs in Austin/San Marcos in the 80's... awesome band live.

Surely I am not the only one who found that amusing. ;)

It's probably not very lady like of me to point that out, but that has never stopped me before. :D

My second-favorite singer (King George is number one) is a guy named Thomas Cunningham. Kind of a laid back surf rock artist, but the guy's amazing.

I own every CD of his that I could get my hands on. Which adds up to one. But quite possibly the best CD in my collection.

1. Stir (not real obscure, great first album)
2. The Werewolves (one album, main songwriter died)

I listened to a lot of live music over the years in clubs---probably too much in my younger days.

Around 73' or so there was a group called "Smoke" that played in an old club in Lafayette, LA called "The Oaks". They were one of the best bands that I ever heard---and with good reason. The lead singer was G.G.Shinn who went on to the big time with the groups, "Chase" and "The Boogie Kings". T.K. Hulin & "Smoke" still tours in SW Louisiana and GG Shinn has his own club and still tours occasionally.

I saw a band at River Road Ice House a couple of years ago opening for Hayes Carll called the Sideshow Tramps. I think they're based in Houston. One of the guys was playing a saw with a bow and the bass guitar was essentially an old butter churn with a big rubber band on it. They were different but very entertaining.

Back in the early 80's I recall an Austin band called the Skunks, and a Dallas band called the Telephones. There was also a little heard of band called U2 that went pretty big after their 3rd album.;)

Lately I'm too old to stay out late enough to have a clue about new music.

You're old! Hell, I saw Elvis when I was 12 in the Astrodome! My older sisters wanted to go, so dad took us all. I mostly remember the screaming and crying girls! But the best part of the concert was when some dude jumped down onto the field from centerfield and rushed the platform stage over 2nd base. Security was in heavy pursuit. Apparently, he wasn't saying anything nice cause when he got to the stage waving his fists the guitar player was gettin' ready to knock em' over the head with his guitar! But security beat em' to it and knocked him out cold with their billy clubs! Wow! I'll bet they cracked his skull! Dragged him off much to the delight of the crowd...Elvis...well, he was just being Elvis and reached over for a glass of water on the piano, took a sip, and said, "Whew, that was a close one"! Then they ripped into his next song......was anybody else there that day???
pos no no se...
