Talked to the HC at Anthony HS which is west of El Paso....he advised me Anthony HS will not opt up to 3A and will play in whatever class their enrollment places them in.

I don't think there are any 2A schools within 200 miles of Anthony. They used to be in the district with my home town, Ozona. A drive of 370 miles each way!

Tornillo is 60 miles from Anthony....they are playing an outlaw football schedule this year but if Anthony goes 2A Tornillo would likely jump back into UIL football...

Alpine, Crane and Kemit might be good candidates..

They might as well join the New Mexico UIL. I would hate the travel if I lived way out there

El Paso to Phoenix is like 7 hours....El Paso to Dallas is 10 hrs...El Paso is an interesting city, if it wasn't so isolated it wouldn't be a bad place to live...

I lived in El Paso for a while in 93' and learned to really like it. I hated the east side of the mountains but the West side was fantastic. A brief early afternoon rain frequently cooled things down and sent the humidity rocketing up but otherwise it was tolerable. We had a house on the side of the mountain with a back yard full of dessert trees and a beautiful rock wall. The view over the valley from our back yard was breathtaking. The only problem that my wife had with it was the scorpions. Everyday we killed scorpions in and outside the house. I loved playing the dessert golf courses in the area.

Anthony:

I went into a bar in Anthony called the Anthony Gap. They had a line painted on the floor that seperated NM from TX. It was kind of cool.

Actually in the early 90's Juarez was even more dangerous than it is now. The peso had devaluated so badly that tourists were being killed everyday there. We never crossed the border the whole time we were there.

I've made that drive a few times when I was younger, but from Gilmer. The "halfway point" is pretty much Albuquerque.

I've driven to Denver before and went through Dalhart -- took 82 and 287 to Amarillo and then picked up 87 over to I-25. Took me about 12 hours. If I ever had the occasion to drive to SLC, I'd probably take that route.
