Doubtful. Good fit would be Coach Black, currently the DC at Cuero. He was the DC at Mathis the last couple of years of Soza's tenure. Haven't heard yet of any interest due to how recent this is.

Mathis is losing atleast 20 to graduation they are taking a big hit.....no dout they are returning some talent including two out of the three backs that were very successful, but they are also losing a lot off their offense and defensive line. after seeing their jv last year they have very promising under classman to fill those big shoes. it gonna be an interesting season.

I wonder if they just bring back Chris Casarez. He's the former AD/HC who was reassigned to an administrative job after being accused of unlawful restraint of a student. I believe he was cleared of any wrongdoing. He runs the same offense, though I question his strategy as he didn't have Donnie Butler as the starting HB as a sophomore and rather had him as a DB. The kids know him though, so it could be a good move.

I wonder where their previous AD/Head Coach is going? Did I miss something? It seems like he was building a good program.

Thanks, I got that much. Just wondering what the future holds for him. We could use someone with those team building skills, as can many programs, I'm sure.

He was finalist for one of the jobs posted about on here, but didn't get it. He'd be a great pickup for any school.

He must have been very loved in Mathis. Something doesn't smell right about that, but no one is asking many questions.

Yeah, but I'm not sure what offense this guy runs. Allman from Permian/Westlake ran a two-back shotgun. Its what G-P's new AD/HC is implementing and they both worked under Allman at Permian.

if I'm not mistaken coach guy grover from rockport ran a two back system out of the shot gun and they looked really good in some games, it works really well with the right personel...and mathis seems to have that with a speedy back in washington and a big full-back like miar, they also have some big guys on line even though they're losing 25 seniors they are taking a big hit on both lines, but they have a lot of big under-classmen to fill those shoes.:nerd:

The returning QB is 5'6 and will not be effective in a shotgun offense. He's great under center. Hopefully the new coach understands his personnel and doesn't try to force anything.

yeah kilby was building a good program its a shame he's gone cause with a new AD/HC you never know what you're gonna get.there wasn't much information out there in the search for mathis next head coach, how many applicants? who did they narrow it down to? i hope they didn't just settle due to school funds.

anthony morgan is only listed at 5'8" and i'd say he did pretty well in the shotgun......just have to look at the players for their own strengths......
