I was listening to Andy and Walter Pasakreta this morning on Ticket 760 in SA. The debate was about Daron Williams and his "entourage" in the locker room in conflict with Sloan. Sloan ultimately washed his hands of the situation, knowing that, if they dealt Williams, he'd have to rebuild anyway, similar to if he himself left.

Pasakreta argued that, if 5-7 years from now, post-Tim, post-Manu, and possibly post-Tony, if the Spurs again had the #1 pick, and it was like LeBron or Aaron Aflalo, they would HAVE to get LeBron. The talent difference is too great to pass up LeBron. He said that Popovich would have to alter his approach to appease the diva player, and that's how it should be.

Andy argued that, in interviews and research, the Spurs would have discovered the selfish nature of the superstar, and would pass on him because of the cancerous nature of the conduct.

Pasakreta considered it nonsense, that Pop would have to conform.

My take is this: Pasakreta knows NOTHING about Popovich, if he thinks that is Pop's nature. Additionally, Popovich would NEVER draft a kid, despite the level of talent. It would fly in the face of his entire career's work.

I think this somewhat reflect the lack of journalistic intellect in the San Antonio media.

Is Mike Taylor still on the air out in San Antonio? He was a coworker of mine at ESPN Radio in Dallas, and I haven't heard much about him since he moved to San Antonio.

Taylor has a show in the afternoons called "Sports Talk San Antonio". However, it should be called "Sex Talk San Antonio." The emphasis is usually more on cougars and "porn star Friday" than it is on sports. I suspect that, since he's not that gifted of a sports commentator, he tries to attract listenership with peripheral guy-attractant.

He has dubbed himself "The Mayor of Sports in San Antonio", and has gotten the Mayor to do a promo spot saying as such.

He overuses meaningless expressions like "d-bag", "jirts" and "porn star Friday" in lieu of journalistic takes.

you gotta do stuff like that to get listeners. Look at The Ticket in Dallas. They are a sports station but do other topics. They blow ESPN and the Fan out of the water in ratings every month.

You gotta do something to keep listeners. If you just do straight sports you're going to be doing the same thing the morning guys did, the same thing midday guys did and the same thing afternoon drive guys did. You have to Mix it up.

Look at ESPN radio in Dallas, when they first kicked off they tried to do all local shows (except for Mike and Mike and Patrick) and it worked for a while, but it failed. The only show that stays is Randy Galloway's show which is a total beat down other than that they have a constant carousel of shows.

Good for them. I vote with my radio dial, and when they start on that bit, or even their local female expose` barn commercials, I switch. I don't care for that garbage.

Tony was only 18 or 19 when he was drafted.

But I kind of see where you're coming from. I think handlers, entourages/sychophants, etc have more to do with the primadonna nature of a player than anything. Knowing that they own the town, etc.

Pop generally has been wise enough not to let that creep into the locker room and not play favorites, and he rides the young guys so much that they decide whether or not they want to play for him early on.

I think this somewhat reflect the lack of journalistic intellect in the San Antonio media. Anybody who would take Aaron Aflalo over Lebron James is an idiot I guarantee Pop would take Lebron 10 times out of 10.
