Going to Vegas Sunday, haven't been since I was 16...best place for Blackjack? Best buffets?? Is the Hoover Dam worth the drive?

Matt, I am surprised that with the number of degenerates that frequent this board, it took the 21st viewer of your thread to offer some advice:cool:
1st, I really enjoyed the Hoover Dam tour when I took it. It is an absolutely amazing feat of engineering and determination. Well worth it.
2nd, as for blackjack, head downtown to "Old Las Vegas" and visit the Golden Nugget and the Horseshoe. Go at night and enjoy the great show that is projected onto the canopy. I also likes Sam's Town Casino which is way off the beaten path. Enjoy the strip but, in my opinion, the best gambling is done off of the strip.
3rd, I don't have any idea about the best buffet. I have always found good food there but it wasn't cheap.

we stay downtown at the golden nugget....table limits will be lower downtown than they are on the strip...

hoover dam is cool if you've never been, and if you are driving then take time to go to some of the off the strip casinos and drive out of town to the mountains....

If you can afford it, the helicopter grand canyon tour is cool. The nugget and horseshoe casinos have some cool history. The rooms at the belagio are nice. Tom jones rocks. Wayne newton is kinda silly. The best shows are the circus acts and the blue man group.

Best BUFFET!!

Take a cab somewhere, and ask the cabbie where the best cheap food is. I asked about 8 years ago, and got a 16 oz ribeye for $7.99 down in old vegas. There are specials somewhere every night, and the cabbies know them ALL

I travel a lot so I have a great luck with upgrades.

This absolutly works. Not every time, but more often than not, you will get an upgrade.

On a seperate note, if you are a preferred member to that hotel, ie....holiday inn or whatever...simply asking without money will usually get you an upgrade if there is a room available. Even if you will never use the preferred points, it will help with the upgrade.

If you are booking through Expedia, Priceline or whatever, its gonna take money to get an upgrade. Heck...its hard enough just get a smile when using a 3rd party booking agent.

Mandalay Bay opened in March of 1999, the Hotel has 4,750 rooms and ran a rich price tag at $950 million to develop.



MGM Grand - 23/47 Upgrades

With over 5,000 rooms the MGM Grand is the largest hotel in Las Vegas.



The Mirage - 49/52 Upgrades

The Mirage opened in 1989 with the most expensive price tag for a caisno at the time, $630 million.



The Monte Carlo - 13/20 Upgrades

The Monte Carlo is the perfect mix between America and Europe.

Which is an oxymoron because it costs you twenty bucks. What you should ask is " if I give you twenty bucks can we get together and screw the owner of the hotel out of some room rate? "

yeah...it costs you twenty bucks, but as far as the hotel knows, it's complimentary.

tried the 20 dollar trick at the MGM and it failed...looking at the odds posted earlier it isn't much of a shock it failed there which is ironic since they have the biggest hotel thus more chance to upgrade you...in the end though the room we originally paid for and got was more than nice enough with a view of the strip and everything...plus we really werent in there that much to begin with...
